Apocalypse Tribe HQ _ Meeting Room _ Guests=owned

Posted by: Dive Apr 29 2004, 04:26 PM

Guest board viewing and posting is now off until further notice.

Admin validation of new registrations is back on.

If you want to invite a friend here, let me know and I can validate their accounts ASAP.

I did this because there were some random people guest posting attacks on other members.

Anyone have any thoughts on this decision?

That's good. Good to know certain people *coughnonamescough* won't be seeing posts.

Nice move.

Great choice. I'm with it 100% and say it should stay in effect.

Posted by: DivA Apr 29 2004, 09:01 PM

if necessary, then i see no problem with that.. at-emote1.gif
unknown, sketchy "guests" that stir problems really have no place here.. sniperer.gif

Good move, it also help those that forget to log in too

I guess I missed something...

Just some mess in the PSO forum, still there if you go look.

Posted by: DarkEpyon Apr 30 2004, 06:54 AM

I'm glad this came into effect. It is indeed for the better.

Posted by: Zio Apr 30 2004, 07:56 AM

Yeah I said something about that in one of the topics in one of the forums I just can't remember which one. Anyway this was an excellent move Dive.

Posted by: psobsesser Apr 30 2004, 08:36 AM

Yeah, I don't mind either, especially if they're just trying to start things.

Posted by: Riel Apr 30 2004, 01:48 PM

I agree although i'm not sure having to register to read the forums is a good idea...can't you arrange that people can read the topics but not be able to post unless they register?

Posted by: Azrael Apr 30 2004, 02:04 PM

I don't mind. *Edit* No offense, but it seems like every time someone wants to try and cause trouble, it's PSO related. Before I left, there were some jerks on PSO that were harassing my friend. I really love PSO and all, but there was always someone negative online before I left. Not that FFXI is any better but on PSO it was more annoying.

Yeah, It's done at a lot of other places I've been to so I'm guessing it wouldn't be too hard to do it here. Srry about the double post btw.

What do the rest of you think? Do you want guests to be able to read the posts but not reply unless they register?

As it stands, when guests arrive at the site, they can see the front page, and everything that is there. But if they click on anything it tells them that they need to log in,

thoughts?

Posted by: HC82 Apr 30 2004, 04:28 PM

Personally, I've always enjoyed a more reclusive AT.

I think the only issue might be people from sites like cow and voodoomoose who might visit here on ocassion to read the forums. They haven't signed up for the forums, but read what's written here at times. There are also people of the AT community who are in areas like school/work and want to read the AT forums, but are unable to log in at that time period.

While I might enjoy things being as reclusive as possible, if there are any other objections(because of the reasons above) then I think their point is valid enough to just prevent guest posting, but allow guests to read the forums.

~yes.. given the circumstances, it would prove fruitful to block guest-posting yet keep the forum viewable to those drawn to learn more about who we are & what we do.. ^^.

Posted by: Ether Apr 30 2004, 08:43 PM

I agree, guests should be able to view topics. A lot of people would just register to be able to see something, then be told they need their account validated, not the best impression to someone just visiting

Posted by: Dive Apr 30 2004, 10:40 PM

Guests not being able to view the board was only intended to be temporary. I agree that they should at least be able to see if they want to be a member of the forum.

Guest viewing is back on, but they will need to register to post/reply.

Sounds good to me. at-emote1.gif

Posted by: Adiamas May 3 2004, 11:19 AM

I don't mind. but with my post history iam like a guest! heh

Posted by: Zio May 4 2004, 08:00 AM

Personally I think you should have kept it where guests could not have even seen our forums. I'll use this thread to talk a bit on Sword of Fire's background on a couple other forums. He has been kicked out of atleast 2 because of his annoying nonsense of course. But after he gets banned from the forums he takes things from those forums without asking. Which brings me to...
Example #1-(This isn't that bad but it could be worse with people's real pcitures).
-The picture with the behemoth and Acemonkey
http://apocalypse-tribe.com/athq/index.php?showtopic=1047

But if you keep it where guests can still look at the forums the only thing I can do is try to convince you to change your mind.

*Edit* Oh by the he also comes back as different names so I suggest you see into the suspicious new member "=^-^=" and ban them or something in a couple of days if they still have 0 posts.

Posted by: Azrael May 4 2004, 11:49 AM

I have a question about the pics. Can someone explain to me about them and how they're wrong? The only thing I can guess is that he either is Acemonkey and not filet or is filet and not acemonkey.

=^-^= is Koneko, a longtime PSO friend.

Don't jump to such crazy conclusions.

He's not Filet, that's SaitoH... beigesmile.gif

Crush, I THOUGHT that was Koneko...! beigelaugh.gif I wasn't 100% sure so I didn't say anything, but I recognize the "name" too. beigesmile.gif

No he is niether, Acemonkey is a mod on another forum a.k.a. Ace on that forum. Also Crush I didn't really think that was a crazy conclusion, I've seen this guy try to get into a forum like a hundred times right after he gets banned. Also on top of that I didn't see the new person introduce themselves within about 4 days (they joined the 1st) so it was easy to mistake for Sword of Fire.

Zio, I am on top of the situation.

There's no need to tell me how to handle this.

Posted by: Dorian May 6 2004, 04:33 AM

Dive is the know all.. Believe me if something is amiss he'll know before anyone else.

After all, he does see every members who joins. If he don't know them, then he'll find out of they are.

So just sit back, relax, and let Teh Dive handel everything. After all... It is his site.

Oh yea, and Dive is my bitch... Right Dive?

I tipped Dive off about Sword of Fire/Amir/whatever and how he works back in January/February when he first signed up here.

I see a noob as someone who is overall stupid and bugs and annoys others. I don't see noob as pertaining just to the video game world. Also I see Dive has things under control so I think we can stop bickering over this.

Posted by: Shotie May 8 2004, 06:40 AM

I see no harm in letting guests view topics-just don't let them be able to reply.

And I'm aware of this already, but this is where Member Only forums come in handy. If there's something that someone doesnt want the general masses seeing, then forums like that are very helpful.

When you set the board up so guests can't even see it, then you have people signing up just to see what's going on, and then if they don't like it, they never come around again, and you get wonky memberlists cause of that sorta thing. (Not that that's a big deal or anything)
