Friday evening Bryn and I went to Gamestop looking for something new to play. I spotted Matrix Online for $20 and it included a free month trial. The price was right so I picked up a copy and figured twenty bucks was worth a month of gameplay. We are both huge fans of the first movie and the Animatrix so this was worth a look. I made a character and had a look around the city. It is a pretty cool game, notwithstanding a slightly poor performance on my aging machine.
This game feels like a cross between City of Heroes and Anarchy Online. A bit hard to figure out the upgrades and abilities but plays very fast, and easy to jump into the action. Bryn wanted to join in on the fun so we went back and picked up another copy.
Jacking in to the Matrix.
Residual Self Images.
Knock knock motherf#ckers!
Let's rock!
Giving the office a fresh coat of bullet holes.
exp and ejecting shells.
Crushing Zion loyalists with our Hacker Code and Simulacrum.
Gettin' down after the battle at a nearby club.
You notice the radio tuner in the lower right corner? You can tune into any streaming broadcast or your own music library in game. The official station of the game has live DJ's who are in game when they broadcast and give updates on any pvp action, parties, or movie character appearances throughout the city. I'll have to set up AT Radio with a .asx file before I can access it with the in game tuner.
Matrix Online also comes with AIM built into the interface. You can contact anyone in or out of the game, and people who don't have the game can contact you while you are playing, kind of like Xfire.
Pretty fun game for what we paid. I am not sure if we'll take it beyond the month trial, we'll see how it pans out. For now we'll be fighting on the Merovingion side, terminating Zionists and Machinists.

Damn that looks pretty cool. I might have to pick up a copy haha.
EDIT: Is there a certain server you guys play in?

haha, that totally reminded me of the movie The Warriors and the DJ's low down on the boppers as they make their way from central park back to coney island, classic. |

I played this game for a while, when it first came out. It was really buggy back then, and I couldn't stay online for more than like 10 mins at a time. Needless to say, I lost my patience and canceled my account. I had a lot more fun with guild wars.
Apart from the game running a little slow at times due to my older vidcard, I have not experienced any real bugginess. I'm enjoying this game quite a bit, a lot has to do with the style, I get sick of wizards and dragons
More pics!
Checking out this club called The Sanguine Room
Check out the detailed decks.
Set em up!
Watching Bryn try on outfits
Man I keep gettin my ass whooped by some gangsters =(
The dancing emote is freaking awesome!
EDIT:
"Cryptman does not exist..."
I don't get it.
What is the premise to this game?
What's the objective?
So far, it looks like Sims: Black Leather Future.
I looked for it today around my area but it's still full price(50 bucks)...it reminds me of CoH,which i had fun with during the free trial last month...
Thanks for the pics though,i enjoy those.

Hey tanshin you still play guild wars? I'm on ring of fire and want to beat the game but it's definitely a challenge.
At the risk of hijacking the thread...
I play guild wars when I have the time. I kind of fell out of it, because I don't know anyone on there, and I got as far as I could using the NPC hirelings. I forget what level I am...17 sounds right, but don't hold me to that. I'm a necromancer.
DJDonkey: Your matrix character looks exactly like the one I had...
Don't panic, these guys are standing by:
Now...

So you're in the matrix.. in the matrix. I gotcha!
Is the AI any good? What do you do for PVP?
Wikipedia's description of what the game entails was excellent. It really made me wanna play this game.
Dive's description, on the other hand... lacking.
Have you noticed if you are able to jump out of the Matrix and be in the "real" world? I am just wondering if you will be able to own your own ship and maybe fight some Squidys or something crazy like that. It would be rockin' to be able to fight the scene when the MILLIONS of Squidys break thru into Zion.

Close combat > All.
...except the times when you get your ass whooped.
Couple screens from tonight.
donkeybeatz is one tough hombre.
Meeting the Frenchman and joining the Merovingian Faction.
Dodge this.
I think this was the highlight of the day:
I ran into this bunch. Practically everyone was dancing so I had to join in haha.

Bryn enjoying our rendition of Y M C A !!!
Aftermath.
More Matrix screens, sue me.
Shoryuken!
Rooftop combat.
Preaching the word of AT.
Our first gig.
Yet even more Matrix screens. In hi-res this time!
Alienware billboard =T
Gunnin' down some street punks.
Dive puttin' 'em down.
One of our many, many, many, many dance offs.
The game has this filter called over-bright. It practically makes the screen glow.
There's another filter which adds a faint green overlay over the screen. I don't think I have it on in any of these screens but if it's on, you only notice it when you switch it off and on.
Detail on the shotgun.
Looks like the transition to Sony is in effect, we now have to log into the game with a Station.com username/pass now. When you start the game now you are directed to https://secure.station.sony.com/mxo/index.vm, which is down as of this post.
We also need to add Matrix to our station.com's subscriptions. What a hassle.

First, just to avoid panic: All your character information is stored on the server. You will not lose any $Info, items, Abilities, etc. during this transition. This information pertains only to things like hotbar settings. When you're able to log back on after the update on Monday, your character's UI settings will not be set up. Since your UI settings are saved locally in a folder under your account name, the first time you log on with your SOE log on a new directory will be created with that name on it. However, there is a workaround to this. Once you know what your SOE account name is, you can rename the folder your character settings are stored in. For example, if your current account name is "Eggman" and your SOE account name is "Walrus": Open your Matrix Online Profiles directory. Usually, this would be: C:\Program Files\Monolith Productions\The Matrix Online\Profiles\ Where "C" is the letter of the hard drive the game is installed on. Right click the folder "Eggman" Select Rename Type in "Walrus" Press Enter Close the directory Once you make that change, your character settings should match what they were the last time you logged on to the game. |

It's heeeeere!!!!! *goes to install* still have no clue what to do about names -.-
Sweet. Now we can dance the night away with more people in the crew.
update gonna take me hours i think woe get's his copy on monday or tuesday too
I wanna play! /cryyyy
Gonna post a mini game guide for the new players soon, some of this stuff is hard to figure out. When you get on, look for either of my characters, Cryptman and Divewire or Bryn's toons Morita and Soniti. To find me or anyone else use /who <player name>, once you see that they are on, use /t <player name> to send a tell/whisper. Soon as I see you on, we will get you added to one of the Crews, and you will then be in the Apocalypse Tribe faction. Later on, you can form your own crew and still be a member of the Faction.
Game Guide coming soon, like tonight hopefully.
Some screens of my second character.
Tutorial Construct section
You know it.
my copy should arive monday.
I may as well play since I already have the game, and you guys are on there. The issue is time, though D:
Yea time is a factor here as well, but you can pretty much count on me being on most nights from around 7pm to midnight(central). Most weekends I pretty much come on whenever though. Also this isn't really the kind of game where you make a career out of playing either, just come on for some dancing and killing with pals.
If anyone is able to be on friday night, there is a party being sponsored by Awakened Radio at Club Polyvinyl in Mara Central. Bryn and I should be hanging out there.
To experience the full party atmosphere, tune into awakened radio during the party, I'll link you to my preset radio list that I access in game. Simply save the following text file to your Matrix Online directory, something like C: \Program Files\Monolith Productions\The Matrix Online\.
http://apocalypse-tribe.com/mpfavorites.txt
You also need to have Windows Media Player 10 installed and up to date to access the ingame radio player. Turn on the radio in the Options menu and the first station should start playing automatically, from then on you can switch between your stations. To add another station simply edit the mpfavorites.txt file I've provided. My selection includes:
1. Apocalypse Tribe Radio - Official AT Radio (music only)
2. Awakened Radio - Official in game station (music + live in game dj's)
3. Chronix Aggression - Metal (music only)
4. Exile Radio - Various (music + live in game dj's)
5. Machine Radio - Various (music + live in game dj's)

Stop making me want to buy this game!
I'd pick it up but I've bought like 3 games in the past few weeks as it is. If you guys are still messing around with it in like a month, perhaps I'll have the extra fundage to join in. In the meantime, keep the screenshots acoming. I've been rather enjoying this thread.
nevermind, it won't install. It's errored out on the 3rd disc like 10 times now, on both of my drives.
Pictures from the Syntax Party!
We arrived late and almost missed Donkey, but I think he got a couple pics.
Representin' AT on the floor.
We totally owned that side of the dance floor.
It got rather, um, warm in Club Polyvinyl.
Rockin out to Bryn's mix.
Saturday Night Fever style.
As the party got later and later, it turned into a real Zion style bash.
Everyone had a little too much to drink.
i dunno where that last one came from...that aint me, i think someone hijacked my character.
ok, I finally got it installed after cleaning the CDs. After I chose to side with Merovingian, a bunch of people (other players) started killing me, and now I can hardly go anywhere/do anything. Kind of retarded. I don't know why any game's design would let some group of level 50 guys kill a level 6 newbie guy over and over again...
Aside from that, we should get together and do some missions or something.
Getting ganked sucks....but, I'm sorta thinking you might be on the Vector server. We're on Syntax, a non-hostile server. The only pvp is consensual.
Nope, I'mn definitely on Syntax. I'm not quite sure why they could just keep on killing me. I don't mind so much now, because I've figured out that there is no penalty when another player kills you, even though you still have to go back to a hardline. Are you guys going to be on at all this weekend? It's the only time I have to play.
Yea I'm going on right now, I'll look for you.
oh, and here is me bringing some fresh meat to a sexy vampire lady on a merovingian mission.
Dive seems to have the ability to talk everyone that plays with him out of their pants.
Keep the pics coming guys. I'm really enjoying them.(O'-')>
What? More dancing pics? OK!
Breakin' it down with Tanshin.
Ernie's Rang-Rang Dance.
We be clubbin'
This was before anyone else was on and I went to check out the place for myself.
Pretty crowded.
Sneak ability.
Yea, we bad.
Aftermath of an Agent attack.
Woe takes the Red Pill.
Somebody call AT?
Henge(Woe) and Divewire pause for a moment of badass.
State Property by Rocawear.
Wow that new video workin good.
Woe gets the game and a hurricane comes =(
I seriously regret not bringing my computer haha
More screens!
Word.
Tried to save him, but it was too late.
Dance! nothin' left for me to do but dance! All these bad times I'm goin' through just dance!
Ellianna makes a Matrix fashion statement.
Do you guys do anything in the game besides go to "da club?"
I don't know what they do when I'm not around, but when I'm on, we're kicking ass without bothering to take any names, flipping out, killing pirates, and straight uppercutting mouths.
and I must say, ellianna's character looks bad ass in that pic.

that's the sweetest thing i have ever seen~!
We hit fifteen last night and were able to access the "Construct" zones. The Constructs are basically an arena where special mobs are present and PVP is enabled. The Constructs are in essence, earlier versions of the Matrix that are available via an Archivist.
Arrival in the Yuki Construct.
These samurai types were scattered all over the arena.
We didn't run into any other players to fight while we were there, so we honed our skills on the npc's.
A couple screens from an earlier session:
Exploring the International District.
One of our missions brought us before this Merovingian beastie.
Taking a break between missions at a Sushi Bar in Sai Kung.
