Speed racer... the movie? Where the hell did this come from? It looks TERRIBLE! And whats up with the cast and crew? Directed by the Wachowski's? Starring John Goodman, Susan Sarandon, Christina Ricci, and several other reputable actors? What kind of bizarro shit is this? -------------------- |

Trailer link wasn't working for me so I went to good ol youtube and found it
http://youtube.com/watch?v=MQyYPP9zR7M And ugh, "what the hell?" sums it up nicely. The CG looks awful. It looks like half of it wants to be this dark, edgy take on speed racer, then the other half wants it to be this bright colorful kids movie about racing. Keeping the character designs so close to the original is a bad move too, I bust out laughing when I saw John Goodman as the fat father |

It made my eye twitch. Not in a good way. More like an epileptic seizure way. But I admit when things are moving it looks pretty damn good. If you doing "live action anime," some things are hard to make look right. Some of it does like the asian dudes hair, and flashing backgrounds (even though they are epilepsy enducing). Everything else looks like either F-Zero, or for character scenes has that exaggerated for live action look that The Flintstones movie had. John Goodman is not helping it lol. Its the too much emphasis of translating the actual cartoony qualities of the charater to real life when it should be toned down. To see what I am talking about take a look at Trixie and Spritle in the trailer. Now compare that to the translation of Wolverines hair in the X films. That is what I mean. Basically it is like the Wachowski Brothers are trying to make "X-men running around in yellow spandex" work for live action. Again when the thing is moving, and when it is too dark to see that it looks like a video game, it works for me.

"A young boy named Goku seeks out upon his grandfather's dying request to find the great Master Roshi and gather all seven Dragon Balls (of which he has one) in order to prevent Piccolo from succeeding in his desire to use the Dragon Balls to take over the world." Hey it could be worse, they could be basing it on Dragonball Z |

Saw speed racer last night. Visually it was nice, the colors and CG designs and editing sure looked nice. It would be a cool movie to show off your home theater or some shit, i guess.
But jesus, it was BORING. I mean it felt like nothing was happening the whole damn movie. Like the actors and dialogue were just another layer of the special effects. -------------------- |

Why the hell did you go see it? WWWWRRRRRRRYYYYYYYY
They judge the success of a movie by the box office sales, not whether people liked it or not after they dished out money. Now that YOU went, you added +1 to the sales. WAY TO GO. -------------------- dueling, remade for modern audiences |

I saw the movie. It reminded me of F-Zero. I thought it was a visual stunner of a movie. I enjoyed it for the action. It's nothing deep but it did the trick.
