Go buy this game. I've never played anything more lush, vibrant, and alive before. Not even in an online game.
![]() One moment I'm clearing out the monsters from a portal to hell, the next I'm avenging the death of the wife of a simple farmer at the hands of some creeps. Then i'm fleeing from a pack of goblins only to run headlong into a couple of demons, but the demons decide they hate the goblins more than me, giving me a chance to escape as my two foes battle each other before the victor (the demons!) continues the hunt for my nooby ass. Later on, I'm helping (!?) a schizophrenic elf figure out who is in the conspiracy to kill him (nobody is, it's all in his head, but he sure as hell doesn't know that), then I'm helping a fellow mages guild member free himself from a trapped dream dimension, where I battle inside his mind for his freedom. And all this is just in my adventures wandering around outside, ignoring the main quest! It seems like every turn, every trail, every new person you meet opens the door to some crazy new adventure. ![]() I've been playing pretty much every free moment since I picked this up on tuesday, and I haven't been disappointed by a single aspect of this game. Oblivion surpasses even GRAW and sets the bar for next-gen graphics, immersion, and game scope. All future single player RPGs have a hell of a lot to live up to, now. The gameplay is much tighter than Morriwind, the combat is actually fun and tactical now, and magic use is a breeze. It even takes realistic physics into account, with enemies reeling back from where you impact them, and explosive spells sending items (and bodies!) flying away in all directions. ![]() http://www.elderscrolls.com/games/oblivion_overview.htm Crushinator 100% recommendation, you must play Oblivion! ![]() PS: I'm playing a redguard assassin, specializing in archery and totally sweet katana moves. PPS: All these screens are 100% accurate to how the game looks on the 360 ![]() -------------------- |

This game is the honest reason why I will EVEN BUY a 360.
Yes, thank you Crush for reaffirming the truth of the matter. Now I MUST buy this!... after I graduate. If I buy this game now, I fail my classes... |

Hah, I know exactly how you feel. Oblivion was the clencher on me buying a 360, but then they delayed it like 5 months after the launch! ![]() But yeah, this game is totally ![]() They took away some of the old skills (bye bye enchant, spear), and combined some together (i.e. no more long blade and short blade, just "blade" skill) so it's a lot easier to get more use out of all your skills. Things like archery, alchemy, charm, and others that I felt were kind of useless or broken in Morrowind are awesome in Oblivion. The quests are a lot more varied too, and every one has an interesting story to it, with lots of little twists. Even the standard TES "first fighters guild warmup quest" of "go kill rats in the basement" goes into some crazy twist and turns, and has you stalking some neighbors and going hunting in the mountains. -------------------- |

I made a Redguard Crusader, that's what it gave me after i did my own class and yes the game is incredible...besides the small stutters on the many loading area's and the same stutters while riding a horse, everything else is amazing...i just joined the Fighter's Guild, which gave me some achievement points(damn those addicting achievements hehe) and only did the first small part of the main quest, the NPC'S A.I. is awesome, the voice acting is great. They improved everything about Morrowind and then some...instead of taking the warp to head to the village for the main quest,i decided to walk there...i discovered 1 cave,1 mine,2 shrines and refill alter on the way...i can see playing this game for 200 hours,i want to take my time and enjoy everything that the game has to offer...hell you can even play as a Vampire if you want.Incredible game.

I agree that walking is a lot more fun than using the fast travel. I usually avoid it unless I'm in the middle of a quest I just want to get finished.
Nothing beats finding some new cave or mine between a rock, and spelunking for treasure between towns! -------------------- |

My adventures and armor collections (look so snazy with hdr on), gota love my assassin, sexy, and will murder you 3 times over before you hit the ground.
note: about half the screenies have a lot of graphic stuff disabled since i was still tinkering to get good fps with bloom/hdr, with everything else cranked. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

This assassin is on hold, so not burning the lvl up yet. I have another assassin thats going pure evil, vampire, using the unicorn as horse. Total destrcution.
Now you might as why i say a unicorn, i mean really? Unicorns, rainbows happy fun land! Well not this unicorn, this unicorn is a weapon of mass destruction, it can take down 3 imperial guards at once, it can 2 shot your ass. It "will" go homicidal when set loose. quotes from others who have played with the unicorn of doom: "Forget it. The thing's psychotic, probably traumatized during it's childhood. It can't tell friend from foe, i mean look at it's eyes! He doesn't exactly come over as the most stable being in Cyrodiil. He might like you for a sec, and then totally throw it all overboard and punish you for being born." "But yes... you are 100% right. The unicorn is the weapon of mass destruction in the game. If total annihilation is your goal, then you must tour with the unicorn..." "Once upon a time, I was riding happily with my unicorn and was bored. I wanted to talk with someone, so I went to the Sky Temple place and looked for Jaffree (SP?). I found him and some other guards dueling...so I got off my unicorn and watched... Not knowing about the evilness of the unicorn, I went inside to talk to Martin... Then i roamed around the place "taking" Katanas to sell. I was ready to depart so i go outside and...OMG!!!!!!!! Damage Assesment... One guard was hanging off the cliff...Jaffree was on top of the building...wierdly... CPT. Steffan was nowhere to be found (probibally fell off the place), and a few of the remaining guards were fighting the unicorn (which lasted approx 45 more seconds)...that wasn't the worst part though... as Jaffree got up... he fell of the building and took major dmg, which knocked him out again...but as soon as he got back up for a second time...he got knocked off the temple and was never heard of again for another 5 min... Anyways, I was "Borrowing..." equipments from the dead guards, for about a few min...and...the I see CPT STEFAN WALKING UP THE STAIRS TO FIGHT THE UNICORN AGAIN... he lasted about 20 seconds be4 falling off again..." "So , in essence YOU will ACTIVATE the killing machine by GOING to him and riding him away . Its only when he's UNLEASHED upon the country side that he truly becomes a danger For example , my first clue that things were going bad.. I was crossing this bridge south of Imperial City . Not that multi tiered bridge that leads OUT of Imperial City..this one is further South East . Anyways , I get stopped by a bandit saying ' This is a hold up ' and he demands 1000 in gold . I gave it to him , I didnt want to fight and I thought it might lead to a mission . I FULLY intended to dismount my unicorn and speak with him..hoping that he would tell me that he needs the money to support a town of diseased citizens....and that he turned to theivery as a last resort..I WANTED to help him . So , I dismount my unicorn ( this is PRE HORROR..by the way ) so I can speak with the bandit....NO SOONER do I get OFF the unicorn , when the Unicorn REARS on his hind legs and TRAMPLES the theif ! Then , he bends his head down and gives the bandit a gore with its horn WHICH , in the process , THROWS the bandit off the SIDE of the bridge !! Not done , the unicorn TAKES off after the falling body !! I was like..." What the crap !?! I wanted to talk to him !! " So , I give chase to the unicorn , already regretting my decision to 'capture' him..and make a right down to a beach...is the unicorn GORING the dead bandit ? No...he's in a fight with a crab !!! And he absolutely bludgeons the crab to death and then calms down . This UNICORN will CHASE anything it sees as threatening ! It doesnt care HOW far you have to walk ! Anyways , I found the bandits body and got my 1000 in gold back . I felt bad ! Shortly after this is when I found this fort and got off to explore . A bandit arrows me out of no where and I turn to face him when 2 Imperial Soldiers are already FIGHTING the bandit. I was STILL unwise to the TRUE NATURE of the unicorn , so I thought I'd sit back , relax , and watch a little NPC on NPC violence... WHEN a see a blur of white RUN past me and STRAIGHT into the fray !! The bandits down and he starts on the Imperial Guards...and then another one joins in and he just MURDERS them all . No remorse. No pity. Just cruel , unicorn horn impaling and trampling . I STILL rode around on him for a time after that . Until he killed a member of the Mages Guild that I had befriended...that was the last straw . But from THIS time until the final straw...he killed more people then I had in the entire game ." FEAR! FEAR THE UNICORN OF DOOM! |

I'm loving how ridiculously hard this game gets as you level up. I'm really having to think through every battle now, and not rush in rambo-force-of-freedom style to slash all the badguys.

Indeed this game can get rough. Biggest problem i have is the lvling system requires so much min/maxing to survive in higher lvls. I went with a lvling mod that makes it so i can just play and not get gimped. In turn though i wont become a power house god as easily either, though enchants help a lot.

This game is awesome and all, but I can't play it any more. I've tried everything I can think of, but I can't play for longer than 20 minutes without a crash to the desk top. Bullshit.

Scope out this if you havnt, has all kinds of crash/tweak and other useful info for obliv. The nvidia ide driver caused me probs till it rashed it. I do crash every now and then, but i think that is more related to the memory leak, and ofcourse the crashes on closing.

Np, glad it worked. That thread owns, from info in it i fixed a small crashing problem of my own. As well as over a 50% invrease in fps with my oldass 6600gt(sli). enough so i can go 1280x1024 distance landscape/trees/cities, grass, actor, objectsliders at 50%, shadows, water on minimal, hdr or bloom +4xaa and still maintain good fps.
