Not sure how many have played FarCry, but their new baby Crysis is coming of age. Sofar it looks to be far and above FarCry, which was a great game.
"Crysis is a new first person shooter being developed by Crytek, the makers of the award-winning Far Cry. The game is to be released in quarter four, 2006 and will be published under EA Games. Players take the role of Jake Dunn, a United States Delta Force Soldier sent into a mysterious island in the South China Sea to investigate an unidentified flying object that has crash in the area. Crysis is highly anticipated, as it will be one of the first Direct X 10 games. Some of the technology it will utilize include dynamic day/night cycle, fully interactive environments, sunrays and diffuse transmission, real time soft shadows, soft particles, interactive/destructible environments, volumetric clouds, and advanced shader technology. Please see the demonstration video in the download section to view this." "Crysis is set in the year 2019 when a giant asteroid type object hits an island (in Spratly Island chain) in the South China Sea. (Much of the Island in Crysis is however modeled of the islands of Hawaii). North Korea, who have become quite a force in the world arrive first onto the island after being informed of an unidentified flying object. After blockading the island they soon discover a large mysterious asteroid. Shortly after, the US also sends in a Delta Force squad to investigate. (You play as Jake Dunn, who is a member of this squad). Things turn bad quickly though, as there is still intense rivalry between the two nations. While tempers flare and fighting occurs between the North Koreans and Americans, the asteroid opens up revealing a large alien ship. The ship encloses itself inside a large sphere causing a large part of the island to become frozen (including anyone who was unlucky enough to get caught in it's reach) and also causes variances in the weather. The Alien enemy brings with it some extremely high tech and dangerous weapons - to such an extent that the North Koreans and Americans join forces. At this point, the player must fight their way through a raft of different environments and enemies to save the world. " I am very much looking forward to this game, and anyone who enjoys a good fps should keep an eye out. Gameplay vids can be found HERE. I reccomend watching all 6, or at the very least, number 4 and the crytech/crysis trailer. More game info can be found HERE. |

I've heard Farcry to be king when it comes to computer AI. I think it will be interesting to seee if they can pull it off with this very nice looking game. I dunno if its just me, but the plot sounds alittle bit like the PREY storyline, oh well.

QUOTE(AC9breaker @ Jul 30 2006, 05:47 AM) I've heard Farcry to be king when it comes to computer AI. I think it will be interesting to seee if they can pull it off with this very nice looking game. I dunno if its just me, but the plot sounds alittle bit like the PREY storyline, oh well. Well, they do both involve aliens, so I guess they are the same there. That is pretty much where the similarities should end though. Prey story was done 99.9% on an alien craft where said aliens were harvesting humans as cattle. Crysis story appears to be more of aliens crashing here with leet tech. Two of the current super powers decide they want it, then get whooped by said leet aliens. I also fully expect more than five hours of gameplay from Crysis, which Prey was unable to give. As well as more of the great AI, 2km+ render distance from crytech engines, and the oh so fun weapons. |
