Most holidays are a "subjugation" of a race or religion. For example, St. Patrick's Day is a celebration of the day Catholicism was brought to Ireland, part of that meant murdering the Celtic Pagans who didn't convert. Christmas has stolen aspects of Paganism to pass them off as its own, such as the Yule log and the Mistletoe tradition. Yule is a Pagan holiday generally celebrated a few days before December 25th. I'm sure most people view any holiday not so much as a celebration, but as a day off work/school and an excuse to see their family. Don't put down something for its origin, just be grateful for what it means. Thanksgiving may have come from what you stated, but we celebrate it as a day to give thanks. |
