I just got back from seeing the midnight showing of Return of the Sith, and I'm pleased to say that it didn't suck. It didn't suck so much, in fact, that I actually enjoyed it.
I think Lucas allowing himself to make a PG-13 movie let us see the darker side of the Star Wars story, and I liked it. I don't want to talk about the movie lest I give away spoilers and plot points, but I will say this: there was much butt-kicking to be done, and not just by the Jedi. R2 gets in on the action as well, which was comical but thoroughly enjoyable. I'd rate the movies in this order: Episode 4 Episode 3, 5, and 6 tied Episode 2 Episode 1 Edit: Correct grammar saves lives. -------------------- <center>

A bit of both. Here are some things that took me out of the movie: SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!! General Grievous is more annoying to me than Jar Jar. c'mon now, four lightsabers? Keep that shit in the cartoons/videgames. Not to mention his stupid cough, and yes I realize that was from the Clone Wars series. Remember the part where Grievous gets knocked down by Obi Wan and he runs away like a scorpion or some shit? Or his ridiculous bike thing chase with Obi Wan riding some awful cgi beast. Lame. Anakin's "turn" to the Darkside was not at all believable. Maybe it's just the way I was envisioning it, but to me being consumed by the darkside means just that, consumed. I had thought that Anakin would turn after Padme dies, yet here is "Darth Vader" killing children one moment, then the next running to see Padme. How can he feel love and care for Padme and their children after that? Their scenes together did not convince me that their love was something worth killing a bunch of children over. Obi Wan tells Anakin after he defeats him that he loves him like a brother, yet he will just stand there while Anakin screams in pain being burned alive. If he truly cared for him he would have put him out of his misery. Crummy dialogue and acting. Too much crammed into one movie, this movie should have been episodes 2 and 3, hell just scrap episode 1! ![]() heh, I'll stop now. I did enjoy this movie though, don't get me wrong. It's just things like this that kept it from being as good as Empire. Things that were excellent: Any scene with Palapatine/Sideous. Obi Wan's character got fleshed out a lot better in this episode. He had wisecrack lines that rivaled the interplay in the original trilogy. The beginning segment was amazing, there was so much to see and miss. The Order 66 montage was excellent, reminded me of The Godfather. The end montage wrapped it all up nicely, maybe a little too perfect but it was fun. I was surprised at the amount of people in the theater who gasped when Sideous dubbed Anakin "Darth Vader". I would have thought this was common knowledge. I guess I could go on. Flawed but satisfying. 7/10 |
