Wow. I am very surprised that no one has posted anything about this yet...
This was the best video game to movie translation I have ever seen. Hands down. AND it was a damn fine movie too boot!
Seriously!
They nailed everything about Silent Hill: the look, the sounds, the "holy shit what the hell is that thing?!!", even the music was straight from the game.
I highly recommend this movie to any horror fan and if you're a Silent Hill fan, then RUN to the theatre and see it.
One caveat though - This is one gorey friggin movie. Much more so than I ever thought it was going to be. Super violent, too. I guess it was to be expected seeing that you are running for your life beating things down with a pipe or blasting them with a shotgun, but when you see it on screen it's much more so! Just a slight warning. beigesmile.gif

Silent Hill movie - Two thumbs up!

ps: I'd say more, but I don't want to give anything away for those who haven't see it yet.

QUOTE (Akukame @ May 14 2006, 01:02 AM)

I had gone and seen it opening day, and I have a bit of a mix feeling about it actually.  Standing alone as a movie, I think that it has a few problems.  The acting was undeniably stale at times.  The story, although it made sense, was a bit convoluted and messy.  Not to mention it perhaps goes a bit overboard on the gore.

I really don't recall any parts of bad acting. Everyone seemed to display the right amount of emotion and feeling in their lines and body language when it was called for. Perhaps the nun that Harry was harassing was a bit weak but I thought everyone was spot on. One scene I thought was wierd was right after Pyramid Head made his first appearance and was slicing a metal door with his sword. After that Rose was all calm and stable after she was just freaking out and completely out of it a few minutes ago while the cop was losing it herself after being calm and decisive when the action was going down.

I agree the movie was convoluted, but I don't think it was messy. In fact I thought it was methodically ambiguous. I felt a certain pattern at which the movie would progress, that would give you a heads up on how the story would progress. A predictable unpredictability I guess.beigelaugh.gif

As for the gore, I find it kinda odd that alot of people are saying it was too gorey since there are only 2 scenes in particular that are crazy on the gore factor to me. The scene with Pyramid Head and the redhead in front of the church and, the last scene with barb wire. Other then that everything felt quite tame and vague leaving it open to imagination. I guess I may have been rendered desensitized after seeing this french flick called IRREVERSIBLE which I'm sure anyone who has seen it will agree that it is too brutal for anyone to be able to sit down and watch it in one sitting. In fact I'd be surprised if anyone can continue watching after the first 3 scenes. bash.gif
