allright, im trying to get DSL set up before i get my PC so i can delve directly into FFXI once i get the PC. i am planning on going through SBC-pacific bell for my DSL... my main question is do i need to have some kind of special jacks installed in my walls? next question being once the DSL in installed how much of a pain is it going to be to setup a router and dynamic IP for my PC (the DSL wont be connecting directly to the new PC)
any help, or if anyone knows where a DSL faq is, i'd apreciate it. --Woe |

Now I am not 100% sure, but as far as i can remember, the DSL company comes to your house and puts in a new phone jack "looking" wall thingy. So, yes. You'll have two different phone jack looking things now. One for the phone specific and one for the DSL specific.
Router thing is a breeze. Literally, it's buy the router, plug the DSL connection to it, then plug your devices into the router. Set your PC to DHCP and you are good to go! The computer will find out what the number is and you are good to go. Unless you already know the number, then you can input it yourself. But the DHCP way is the easiest. Am I to assume that your other device is a console? -------------------- ![]() |
