allright, im trying to get DSL set up before i get my PC so i can delve directly into FFXI once i get the PC. i am planning on going through SBC-pacific bell for my DSL... my main question is do i need to have some kind of special jacks installed in my walls? next question being once the DSL in installed how much of a pain is it going to be to setup a router and dynamic IP for my PC (the DSL wont be connecting directly to the new PC)

any help, or if anyone knows where a DSL faq is, i'd apreciate it.

QUOTE (Riel @ Dec 29 2003, 10:50 AM)
Unitself is right on the second part but one of the advantages of DSL is that in fact it uses the same network as regular phonelines so no you wont need to install anything on the wall, just extra wires that attach to the phone and the DSL modem you will get.

I believe riel is referring to another type of DSL technology, called ADSL. This type of DSL uses your existing phoneline, so no additional wall drilling is required. Basically just buy a ADSL modem, plug it in, and you are good to go. Depending o ISP, they may require you to login inorder to be able to use. This is what i am using anyway....
