So, which of these two new handhelds are going to get you hard earned cash? Is it going to be the DS, with its revolutionary two screens and touch screen, or is it going to be the do-all PSP, with its excellent screen and general coolness?

Here's my thoughts.
At first, I was all DS and anti PSP. One reason was the cost of the PSP. Everything I read was that it was going to be close to $300. That's alot of cash to doll out! Another was the rumors that the battery wasn't up to par. My reasons for leaning towards the DS were the massive game library that already existed (the GBA's) and the thought of playing a bunch of cool things with two screens and the touch screen.
Now, my thoughts have changed.
I just read that the PSP is going to cost $200. Still a bit expensive, but better than $300. I also read that they got the battery life up to six hours. To me, that's a long life. Sure, my GBA lasts for ten hours, but I'm never going to play it for ten hours straight so...
So far, the DS's game library is a complete joke and I don't see it improving anytime soon. Nothing they have released so far has my interest. Nothing. There was one game I was interested in, Animal Crossing, but it's delayed until Sept. 2005. Now, I know nothing about what games are in development for the PSP, but I am thinking that it's going to be more up my alley. I have never owned a Sony game console but I read alot of magazines about games and the PSOne and PS2 have a boatload of great games I wanna play so I am betting that the PSP is going to follow in the same footsteps.
So, to sum up. Unless some games comes out on the DS that interest me in the near future, I am saving my money for the PSP. I will always have my GBA, which I still love and which there are hundreds of great games for. Or maybe I will forget all this handheld talk and pick up a PS2.

What are your thoughts on the new handhelds??

Like you said, I feel that DS's library is a total joke. Any potential it has with the 2 screens, touch screen, and wirless connection is being (and will most likely continue to be( squandered by nintendo and its 3rd parties.

On the PSP front, there aren't any games out or on the horizon that interest me, but I think in the end it will be a more viable platform for portable gaming than the DS. Nintendo really dropped the ball on the technology game by giving the DS N64~level power while they are up against the PSP. Maybe they'll pull a Gameboy Advance 2 out of their asses that can compete with the PSP, fucking over all the DS player, but that remains to be seen.

I'm betting Kanomi will do for the DS what it did for the GBA, when Castlevania DS comes out, it is a direct sequel to Aria of Sorrow, which in turn is still one of the best GBA games to date

They both have my money but yes, Nintendo needs to get their asses into gear with making some new games for it. I know Metroid Prime:Hunters is suppose to come out next month but thats about the only DS game that I see that I wanna get. I know I will probably get PSP also which should be good. The thing about PSP was that people were getting defective units of some sort. More Info here from other forums that I go to. I guess we will still be waiting awhile for them both to come out with something though.

Well, Knightsword, apparently Sony was able to fix that and up it to more like six hours now. Although, he did say that it depends on the game you're playing.
Tetris or Pong = 6
Grand Turismo 6 = more like four or some number under six

The disk spin has a lot to do with it. And he also mentioned that using the built in speakers drains the battery more too.

I got this info from a new issue of ... crap I can't remember the name of the magazine. I will post it when I remember.

and...
Zio, I have seen this disc pop out video. Kinda funny. Funny in a "DAMNITALLIAMGOINGTOKILLSONY!!" kinda way. Yeah, hopefully they'll fix that before it comes out here in the states.

The disc pop out thing only happens if you twist the system. Its not like it flies out unprovoked. So unless you are going to be twisting your PSP in an agressive manner (maybe because you are so infuriated at losing on Ridge Racers?) you don't need to worry about it.

to put it simply, i play the game, not the system. If nintendo happens to release a game that really intrigues me, i'll buy a DS, if PSP releases a game that truley intrigues me, i'll buy a PSP.

Nintendo talks about a new Zelda for the DS, intriguing! PSP talks about Final Fantasy Crisis core, also intruiging. I'm not going to buy it until i get a chance to figure out how the game plays though. I'm not looking for ground breaking graphics, just something thats gonna keep me entertained. If they release something that will turn into a classic, they both get my money.

Haha, yeah I kinda feel sorry for Laguna though. =/

Hmm... well, now I'm a bit skeptical on buying a PSP at launch.  I mean, GT4 Mobile has me psyched, but I want something that's gonna work well when I turn it on.  Here's hoping that Sony learns from their Japanese PSP launch and fixes things in time for the US release.  Sony: PLEASE make something with moving parts that doesn't crap out on me right after the warranty expires!  Like with my CD Walkman... and my car stereo... and my PSX... and my PS2...  Oh hell.  <_<

Hear hear. Really between PSP and DS's whole gamelist revealed so far, the only games I have any interest in are Wario Ware Touched, Advance War DS, and Metal Gear Ac!d. Everything else is either a re-hash, unappealing, or something I can already play better on a console.

I wouldn't be surprised if I don't get either DS or PSP till 2006, just to let the software mature a bit.

Yeah depends on the games, and right now, for my taste, the DS is in the lead. Who knows though, only the future will tell. If the DS does get a PSO like it's been rumored however, decision making OVER. beigelaugh.gif

oh come on Crushinator!
The graphics on PSO aren't great anyway. They were pretty N64 to begin with.
beigesmile.gif
I do have to agree with Vitamin D about PSO DS though. If it does come out. Case closed. I'd sell plasma to get the money for that. Funny, I have no idea why though. hahaha... There'd be no keyboard so we couldn't type. The DS has a mic so theoreticaly we could voice chat, but that seems pretty slim to me. Shit, where did this PSO DS rumor even start? What would be new about the game? Would it be a PSO ep. 4 or something?

I resisted getting a DS so far,mainly because 1:

They have been sold out here for the last month beigerolleyes.gif 2

None of the games so far appeal to me and 3:

There's a rumour of a big bug with the unit...if it's plugged in and you pull the cord out accidently, there's a chance the DS will never power on again.

But the PSP is really tempting and i'll probably get that as soon as it comes out.

Theres a solution to that, i like to call it the 2 year extended warranty, only 17 dollars. ;)

The only game that tempts me so far at all is mario 64, which i have for my N64 so i dont really need it. I see this as a nice oppourtunity as well. If i'm lucky enough, by the time something comes out that i like, perhaps the price will have dropped.
