Do you mean like contradictions to the Star Wars storyline or just general happenings in the movie itself? I'm rather curious.
beigesmile.gif

A bit of both. Here are some things that took me out of the movie:

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!

General Grievous is more annoying to me than Jar Jar. c'mon now, four lightsabers? Keep that shit in the cartoons/videgames. Not to mention his stupid cough, and yes I realize that was from the Clone Wars series. Remember the part where Grievous gets knocked down by Obi Wan and he runs away like a scorpion or some shit? Or his ridiculous bike thing chase with Obi Wan riding some awful cgi beast. Lame.

Anakin's "turn" to the Darkside was not at all believable. Maybe it's just the way I was envisioning it, but to me being consumed by the darkside means just that, consumed. I had thought that Anakin would turn after Padme dies, yet here is "Darth Vader" killing children one moment, then the next running to see Padme. How can he feel love and care for Padme and their children after that? Their scenes together did not convince me that their love was something worth killing a bunch of children over.

Obi Wan tells Anakin after he defeats him that he loves him like a brother, yet he will just stand there while Anakin screams in pain being burned alive. If he truly cared for him he would have put him out of his misery.

Crummy dialogue and acting.

Too much crammed into one movie, this movie should have been episodes 2 and 3, hell just scrap episode 1! beigelaugh.gif

heh, I'll stop now.

I did enjoy this movie though, don't get me wrong. It's just things like this that kept it from being as good as Empire.

Things that were excellent:

Any scene with Palapatine/Sideous.

Obi Wan's character got fleshed out a lot better in this episode. He had wisecrack lines that rivaled the interplay in the original trilogy.

The beginning segment was amazing, there was so much to see and miss.

The Order 66 montage was excellent, reminded me of The Godfather.

The end montage wrapped it all up nicely, maybe a little too perfect but it was fun.

I was surprised at the amount of people in the theater who gasped when Sideous dubbed Anakin "Darth Vader". I would have thought this was common knowledge.

I guess I could go on.

Flawed but satisfying.

That is part of the character since the original triology. Anakin has deep attachment to his family.

I agree his motives were not handle as well because Anakin's character arch was not as apparent in Episode I and II (mostly because of the time gap), but I feel Episode III tries to make the most of it. However, all the things that made Anakin go to the darkside was established in the OT. So, if you think how he went to the darkside is weak, then the whole "path to the darkside" in the OT was weak from the start.

Its all there in Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

"Once you start down the dark path forever will it dominate your destiny. Consume you it will."

"Give in to the darkside. It is the only way to save your friends."

From Empire Strikes Back:
YODA: Luke! You must complete the training.

LUKE: I can't keep the vision out of my head. They're my friends. I've
got to help them.

YODA: You must not go!

LUKE: But Han and Leia will die if I don't.

BEN'S VOICE: You don't know that.

BEN: Even Yoda cannot see their fate.

LUKE: But I can help them! I feel the Force!

BEN: But you cannot control it. This is a dangerous time for you, when
you will be tempted by the dark side of the Force.

YODA: Yes, yes. To Obi-Wan you listen. The cave. Remember your failure
at the cave!

LUKE: But I've learned so much since then. Master Yoda, I promise to
return and finish what I've begun. You have my word.

BEN: It is you and your abilities the Emperor wants. that is why your
friends are made to suffer.

LUKE: And that is why I have to go.

BEN: Luke, I don't want to lose you to the Emperor the way I lost
Vader.

LUKE: You won't.

YODA: Stopped they must be. On this depends. Only a fully trained Jedi
Knight with the Force as his ally will conquer Vader and his Emperor.
If you end your training now, if you choose the quick and easy path,
as Vader did, you will become an agent of evil.

BEN: Patience.

LUKE: And sacrifice Han and Leia?

YODA: If you honor what they fight for...yes!

Looka like Anakin and Luke faced similar situations to me. The difference is Luke had something to believe in with the rebel alliance trying to take down the evil Empire. Luke had friends that would risk their lives to save him. He is a hero of the rebel alliance, and is the new hope for the alliance.

On the other hand, Anakin is this Jedi and he does not really believe in their Jedi dogma to begin with. He breaks the code by marrying Padme. He is not really a hero, though he by the start of Episode III he is on his way to become. Then, the Jedi tell him to do something he is not okay with. Then you have this guy, who is fucking president of the universe, filling his head and telling him he is the best and knows a power to save people from dying.

Anakin/Darth Vader has always been impulsive, even since the OT. One of the things most people don't realize in Empire Strikes Back is that the Emperor or Empire has no knowledge that Vader is searching for Luke. His whole plan is to find Luke, turn him to the darkside, and destroy the Emporer and rule the galaxy with Luke. He has no room for failure, hence killing Imperial officers when they fuck up. Going back to episode III, Anakin cutting off Mace's arm was impulsive. Not only that, but Mace would have been assassinating the president of the universe. Anakin was right, regardless if the guy is a sith he needed to be brought to trail. However, Mace and the rest of the Jedi are too caught up in the whole Jedi "must not let Sith come back" dogma to use their judgement. By the time Mace is flying out the window, what other choice does Anakin have? Try and kill the only guy that took the time to understand Anakin over the years and risk being killed and no way to save Padme? I'm not saying this is the best solution to Anakin turning, but Lucas pretty much wrote himself into a corner in the OT when he had a character that is evil, but wanted good to be still in him.

King Arthur vs. The Black Knight. Just like many other things in Star Wars is taken from myths and legends. Besides, I don't think it is within Obi-Wan's character to do something like that. Obi-Wan probably just figured he would die.

As for episodes 7, 8 and 9. Lucas stated in an interview years ago (before Episode I released I think) that those episodes were condensed and made into Return of the Jedi. The plan was for episode 6 "Revenge of the Jedi" Luke would kill Darth Vader and become the Emperor's apprentice. Episode 7-9 would be about finding the "other" Yoda was talking about in order to bring Luke back to the good side. Ends up being Leia, and she brings Luke back and destroys the Emperor. The end. Lucus also mentioned that each trilogy would focus on one aspect. He said the prequel trilogy would be polictics, the OT would be war, and the last trilogy would be spiritual.

You quote Star Wars like a zealot quotes holy scripture, I salute you.

Like I said, I just envisioned it differently than the way Vader was presented. I can see the motivation, it just didn't work for me. I don't buy the fact that Vader would even care about Padme at all once he was consumed by hate. It's almost like he was only mostly-darkside when he turned, then his sith meter gradually filled up. I wanted a crash bang pinnacle moment where Anakin so burns with rage and hate that the turn to the darkside is not a fumbling choice but a terrible certainty.

Maybe I built this up too much in my head all these years.

This was all in the Dark Horse comics: Dark Empire, Dark Empire II, and Empire's End.

Also Lucas as stated over and over again that there will not be a 7, 8, and 9, since he does care for all the work that others have put in to creating the expanded universe.

Also it's my belief the the end scene on the ship's bridge, that its the prototype from the Jedi Academy triology and not the actual object in question. Since otherwise it put a big what the in the original triology due to the lengths of time involved.

Yeah. I would of loved if Anakin's turn was like Michael Corleone. All the darkside seduction from Palpatine, and Anakin being corrupted by the darkside should of been the focus of Episode II with Episode III being the final punchline. Instead, Lucas chose Anakin's character arch and many other things in the first two prequels to be subtle. He didn't base Anakin, or most of the characters in the prequels, on any archetypes from myth like the first trilogy. I don't know why Lucas went that route.
