Does the texter provide on-screen cues for typing, or do you need to memorize that crazy chart?

I pretty much got every major release of PSO except for PSO plus. I have 2 more artbooks and a handful of posters coming in. Doesn't a huge learning curve defeat the purpose of me just going out and buying a 10 buck KB and typing easily, while still being able to mashing the photon art button, or does the texter whispher sweet poems to you as well. That thing looks hella confusing to use.

I think if they had released something like this at the beginning of the PS2's online life cycle, and made it a "standard" for the console's virtual keyboard input then it might have taken off. But as it stands now, PS2 is on its way out, and all online (console) games now support voice chat, negating the need for excessive text input during the game. But hey, STICKERS!
