*drool* it has begun ~ Mortal Combat!! Oo ack ~ hmmm.. ;p sorry, wrong game; but it's here, it has arrived - i hold it reverently in my hands & i'm getting the GC fired up.. ^^ now let's see if the game is worth all the silly hype & yes folks, i'm going critical with this one when i post my impressions of the game ~ i am hard, but i am fair.. ;p
...
to be continued.. *goes off to play throughout the night.. ;p*
Ooh, lucky you! Have fun tonight. ^.~
I for one will be anxiously awaiting your report. :3
I still have yet to redeem my play-asia coupon I got when I picked up the trial from them in august.
Some quickies:
The music: It's awesome! It's like you're playing an epic RPG.
Right when you boot up the game you're greeted with a piano riff.
In addition to the lobby actions and chat symbols, you can now do sound effects!
Theres the "OK!" voice. (both male & female versions)
Theres lots more like the crowd and even piano notes.
The graphics look more refined. Doesn't really seem like a DC game anymore.
The NPC's have their own graphical look now.
The cut-scenes: OMG its amazing! OMG it's awesome! OMG it's all in Japanese!
On a related note: Unlike previous installments, this version is all in Japanese.
But its still very easy to pick up. A few minutes into the game I know what to do already =)
I sure wish I knew what was going on in the cut-scenes...
Well that's it for now.
I'm off!
Electric Boogaloo!!
--d-_-b
Cool, keep the impressions coming guys...i wonder why they made the game only in Japanese all of a sudden...i hope it doesn't delay the American release.

~indeed, as i stand in the midst of this beautifully rendered lobby as my new & improved HUnewearl - my initial impressions are looking hopeful; after i managed to spend an hour just getting this far..
...
no english, only JP like dj announced ~ ack!! Oo but on the lighter note ~ the sound effects for communication(s) are cosmic, some are even kawaii.. =) but for those that are playing, is the battle system in JP too? i have yet to get there, most likely i'll finally battle sometime by noon.. ;p
btw - how do i speed up my text-speed? =.
totally cool!
were you guys online last night?
I saw DJ... but not our DivA.

I went to talk to all the NPC's [3-4 times even]
When I went to the teleport, it initiated a cut-scene
and I was able to select the stages.
I did a co-op online game today..
Our 2nd battle, we got owned by the computer.
I pretty much know most of the menus.
I just got through a trial and error card sorting =T
So I'll get back to you on that.
~hey dj, i started over now that i have a better sense of what to do; i was curious as to what alignment you chose.. =. during the morning, i chose heroside - this evening, i chose darkside & it's like a total flipside.. Oo it's interesting, but i don't see any weapons on my beginner card-list.. Oo *ponders* does this mean that those of the darkside are summoners of various baddies, perhaps? i guess i'll learn more once i get below to battle.. ^^'
January! Faster!
*envisions the De Roi Le card... and shudders"
Damn, I hate that worm!
~getting a De Roi Le? lol, that's a long ways from now; at present, all i gots are the bo-bo baddies to summon at my opponents...last night, i survived my 1st battle & i got several cards for my efforts - yay!! more basic cards.. ;p i have a feeling that by the time January arrives & the American version comes, i'll barely scratch the surface of getting any of the good stuff..
...
just a hunch, of course.. =)

*nods* =) yah, i'm starting to really like darkside ~ i finished my 2nd & realized the combinations between the baddies & the various magic cards *inserts light-bulb smilie* - serves that RAmar right for trying to talk "BS" to your's truly.. even though it was in japanese, i gots the feeling that he was not being pleasant.. ;p you know, at first i was skeptical ~ but now that i'm getting the feel for the game, it's quite fun.. ^^ different, but fun in a leisurely sort of way..
...
now that i think about it, this game reminds me of a cross between Battle Chess & Final Fantasy Tactics & it does feel satisfying when i finally win one..
OK I got some scans. Enjoy!
OMG PSO EP.III!! 5 cards came with the game =)
It was neatly packaged I might add.
This one is for Mute. hehehe. What it doesn't show is the shiny surface of the card.
What do you call em... Illuminated cards?
Ok its not really a rappy card. What this card does in the game is:
Let's say a you're playing as an Ark and a Hero NPC attacks your Hildebear.
And you used this card for DEF [when you get attacked].
Instead of the Hildebear taking damage, it gets put away, back into your deck.
Awesome? Maybe.
All the PSO discs I bought for GC alone.
Though the v1.0 thing sucked, I don't really regret buying any of these discs.
Not really a scan but I got a rank S!
~that is one thing i love about the japanese, they know how to package a game.. the case is uber tiny - it's kawaii.. =) & i like the design etched upon the surface of the disc, all i can say is that the folks at SEGA did a fantastic job ~ kudos.. ^^
...
btw, what's the difference between an "S" rank & an "E" rank - i gots the E-rank for that battle; does that mean that i failed in both skill & technique? ;p

WTF is this 55 hp!

Wow, this game sure looks nice... I'll definitely be checking it out when it comes out in the US. It really sucks to hear that it's all in Japanese for the import verison ~ on of the most important aspects of this game, in my opinion, is that (so I hear) it will complete the Pioneer II storyline. Not being able to read the plot would really bother me. >.<
Anyways, thank you all for the updates, info, and especially the pictures! Keep 'em coming! :3
I should be getting my copy sometime next week, or the week after.
My first boss battle!
Wow he almost kicked my ass. At the end I came back. =)
I only had like 3 HP left.
This guy had 40HP.
One of his attacks wiped out ALL of the cards I had equiped.
Good thing I had a good dice roll. I re-equiped myself with the remaining item cards.
And it seems like you can only hit him when he's black. [like the picture]
When he reverts back to white, you can't hit him. [At least I couldn't for numerous turns]
The area itself is huge compared to the other maps.
He did a good thing by moving up to me =P

since the US version is around the corner to reach these shores, i'll still pick it up to play catch-up with the story.. |

OOPH!! The mighty PSO machine continues to devour all in it's path! Hey, DJ! You had scans of all your GC PSO disks. Could you explain what each of them are? I don't recognize the green ones. So... story time. PSO 3 takes place like a few hundred years after we all kicked Ragol's ass, right? And now we are all so fat and lazy that we play pretend battles using these hologram producing cards? Like Yu Gi Oh! And don't think I am making fun of it... oh, I AM! And I will be right there in the hunt come February (US release date), just like the rest of us addicts. |
oops forgot to log in =T
Oh and to answer your question:
It doesn't take long before you get to that boss fight.
Fight a couple of battles, and next thing you know you're fighting the boss.
Before you fight, Pioneer 2 music changes to something more dramatic.
Again, very awesome and orchestrated.
Oh yea make sure you create different decks with different characters.
Some areas can only be accessed with certain characters.
I figure that, what the hell, I might as well squeeze in another pic =P
This was from a tournament I participated in earlier.
When I first saw it, it was unbelievable. Then the COM did it again!
This time I took a snapshot.
What you see is not a cheat nor a glitch.
I'm not sure what card it is but from sources, they call it a KO card.
At the end of the battle, the COM that was using the card, delt 203 points worth of damage on me.
Amazingly we won that one.
I was thinkin about gettin FFXI but I don't know anymore. hehehe.

Mmmm, this certainly caught my interests. Too bad the US version is such a long way off.
Well theres alot more to Arkz than just casting monsters in the field.
Each of the Arkz have different abilities.
I experimented with Reiz and she can hit a Hunter head on even if he/she is equipped.
Also, each of them have different weapons.
You have to learn how to use those to your advantage.

All of this talk has really piqued my interest as well.
There's no way I would import though. Not being able to read the story line would drive me nuts!
I just hope the games that come out before this one will keep my interest going until then.
There's always farming!

Sounds like tons of fun, can't wait to try it out early next year. Here is some impressions from the guys over at Gamespot.
http://www.gamespot.com/gamecube/adventure/pso3cardrevolution/preview_6085275.html
whoa... I just watched the two movies from GameSpot. This game looks amazing. Although, it's weird to see the fast paced action of PSO come to a crashing halt during the card battling. But, I can say that it looks like it's going to be alot of fun. Different fun, but still fun. In regular PSO all you have to do is A-B-B, run, A-B-B, run... repeat. Looks like there is ALOT more strategy and thinking going on in EP3.
When I watch the game play movies, I instantly feel overwhelmed by the number of choices. Is that so? Did you guys find it hard to jump right in and play? I guess you have already talked about that... but seeing it for myself in these movies kinda wigged me a bit. Not being much of a turn based game play person, it should be a new learning experience for me!
Well, sometimes it is kinda tough to figure out what you want to do. There are dice now involved so there is a chance that you will not get good numbers on the dice and you oppoent will always get good numbers.
You only get so many attack points each turn from the dice so you have to plan your turn accordingly. It really is like a card game...if you ever played a game like Magic the gathering...but now it has dice involved in the game decisions.
Also, I played with a Japanese friend the other day and he got a nano dragon to summon. He instant killed the other player by swaping the HP and ATP of the nano dragon card...then attacking the opponent for 14 damage! Insta kill! That was also at the beginning of the game too!
Anyways, I think it is fun, but I have much to learn myself with the game.

Be prepared for ALOT MORE strategy & thinking (and nerve wrecking matches) as ST will change the parameters of the cards this week. Which means cards will cost more to use, HP will be modified, and among other stuff. Of course this will only apply online =) |
Got my ep3 today.
I really like the fact that your Attack Points are generated by dice, I used to play a Games Workshop board game called Space Hulk and it used that exact same scheme. It was big fun not knowing what to expect on the next round.
I am getting more interested in this game the more I read your reports.
