Mission log, 07/09/07

It had been several months that a desire to play with the Nintendo Wii, had been ignited me. Wait, it has in fact actually been several years. Since word first hit the net of this new electronic gaming system as codename Revolution. I knew this was going to be something big-nay something AMAZING-something I MUST PLAY. ...and as time passed, my assessment of this new device was proven to be true with each and every passing day in till finally. The Nintendo Wii was launched. It was madness, Man against man, woman against social norms-kids against vegetables The Koreans where afraid that this chaos would envelope their nation and quickly began to gain nuclear leverage in hopes of quelling whatever trouble may come their way in the near future thanks to this powerful trinket of Nintendo's! mario.gif

In any case, I too desir-no...I lusted for it-I needed it-I HAD to have it. The Nintendo Wii must be in my possession. Nevertheless, a greater power would not have for such a thing; for in the 9 months that have passed in the launch of the Nintendo Wii, my wallet has suffered the slings, and arrows of unfortunate fate. However, the drive I have to own a Nintendo Wii is uncompromising, unyielding, restless, relentless, persevering, and most of all, ABSOLUTE! I have beaten back all the challenges that deny me my Wii- deny me my money. Finally after 9 Months, I can afford a Wii. trophy.gif

Despite all that, fate still chooses to defy my will. I begin my journey to obtain a Wii today at around 1pm. First I head to a local, privately owned, small establishment in the city market. Out of stock. I then head to the beast known as Gamestop, located on the same street. No Wiis where to be found. It seemed I would have to search bigger complexes, so I headed back to mission control and hopped in my chariot and traveled the scorched and blasted land known as New Jersey. 3 Malls, 1 outlet, 9 stores in total, and not a single Wii in stock. Back at mission control, I research several potential sources. But alas, not much luck was had. Then I find this, WHAT!? Is this a sign of some sort!? IT IS AS IF THE GODS THEMSELVES DEFY MY WILL!!! WHY NINTENDO WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!! crash.gif crash.gif crash.gif

I was in basically the same boat as you since the Wii came out, till about 2 months ago. Then I just got fed up. My weekly shopping trips ending fruitlessly. I had lost the desire to play Zelda, the only "real", "meaty" game I had interest on the Wii. 10 months and still only one game I was truly interested in playing, and its a port of a last gen game of all things. Its over, throw in the towel.

It was my oldschool Nintendo-bred yearnings and new-tech fetish driving my desire for a Wii, not a compulsion for the games on it. At first it did seem like a "revolution", massive potential. I couldn't wait to see what developers and nintendo themselves would pull out of it.

But now here we are with nothing but shitty minigame fests, and half-baked PS2 ports with shitty waggle gesture controls instead of intuitive one-to-one movement like was initially promised. And lets not forget them charging out the ass for old games that are completely devoid of new, online, or HD content, again mooching off the nostalgia factor. Don't even get me started on the lack of online games.

I'll get one when Smash Bros comes out, but besides that, I can't give enough shits about Metroid, Zelda, or even my man Mario to drop 250 bones on a system I will play <10 games on. I never thought I'd say this, but odds are I'll have a PS3 long before I end up buying a Wii.

I played Wii over one peer's house. It was cool and all, but I got tired of it in what I would say is a few hours (the mini games that is). He was in love with it though.
It's really really awkward to use for shooting games and the mass appeal of a cool new controller isn't being done right at all. Wii does not is any way NEED PORTS; it needs UNIQUE games that maximize the potential of the remote. Intill that time comes, I ain't getting one. I probably see myself getting a Wii the year before the next next gen systems hit the street. Then I can hand pick all the quality Wii games and pick up the system for dirt cheap.

I sure as hell ain't getting a PS3 anytime soon.

Then again you never know. All it takes is one game to change someone's mind a pick up a system (ie. PSO~PSU).

EDIT:This post was a reply to AC's original comment, not ment to the quote of HC82.

To tell the truth i have a Wii but besides Zelda and maybe Paper Mario, for now,you arent missing much game wise with the Wii...it is not a gaming console so far, more of a fad console, which is ok i guess.
