Apocalypse Tribe HQ _ Phantasy Star _ PSO Blue Burst Info

Ok ok I'm putting all the info I gather from PSOBB Beta here. Hurray for organization!

-Beta is entirely in Japanese =\
-Server-side Saving! w00t! Keep your stuff even if your comp explodes.
-Minor graphical updates and NPC remodeling.
-Section ID's are now calculated differently.
-Lv30 required for Hard Mode. More on higher difficulty requirements later.
-Actions can now be assigned to the number keys.
-In order to unlock areas, you have to complete the required quests.. in order no less.
Be careful as there are many many enemies spawning.
-Though there is no offline mode, you can still do the "offline" quests online in Quest Mode. It seems that only the 1st tier of quests are available. So it doesn't look like you can convert enemy parts in the Beta.

-Team system: Basically a clan system. Chat with members of the team in a separate chat window to see whats going on. Earn points to purchase items like team flags. Any additional stuff I'm still trying to find out.
Name of the team appears on top of your character in the lobby.

user posted image
Sonic Team team flag =)

user posted image
-Looks like they rank teams according to points.

-I recently did caves a few minutes ago and found out something interesting. I encountered a Pan Arms and waited for it to split. As I was hacking away at Hidoom and Migium, one of them casted Resta! WTF? Healed 85HP each time.
-Check this: You can now join a team in a middle of a quest provided that theres an open spot and you're up to that particular area.

Additional NPC pics.

Character class now affect your section ID.
-On a team related note: there's this option called "Warehouse" where the team members can add items in. I'm not sure if you could add actual in-game items or team related items (like team flags).
-It seems that you need points to add more members to your team. I think default is 20. I guess that's not really a problem for us =)
-Logs, logs, logs. Chat logs and in-game logs are automatically saved in the PSO BB folder.
Check up on gossip in the lobbies and what areas you visited (with a simple "LOAD_forest" text no less).
Now you can keep track of all the PSO cybering chats. J/K lol.
-Official download from the official site.
http://psobb.jp/freedl.html

I'll add to this as I find out more stuff.
Any related questions you guys have goes in here.

They can do that in the earlier version of PSO, its just really really really rare. Like, I've seen the orange one do resta maybe twice ever.

Cool pictures, I like the FOnewearl nurse. Bank lady still looks trashy though beigebiggrin.gif

Posted by: Skorpius May 28 2004, 12:25 AM

Miginum (blue) was the one that casted techs, and would stab Hidoom and heal them both ;x

On Topic: Thanks DJ ;o

HAHAHAA!! As in they gave her a maximum push up bra? ahahaha... crazy graphics guys.

and I always wanted PSO to have action keys set to the keyboard. 99% of the fun of being a FO was mixing up the spells. Having only a few buttons on the controller is not enough for me.

Posted by: HC82 May 28 2004, 11:22 AM

Server side saving must be a boon. What took so damn long? More enemies is a no brainer. Insane enemy spawns is the life blood of PSO and sometimes the game is just too melow in the earlier stages. Give the people what they want, is what I say.

It may seem like a good idea but to me, its almost like playing Twister with your hands. Imagine trying to move around with the WASD keys and at the same time trying to hit the 1-5 keys. It was pretty awkward. Of course you can always set it to the right most number keys.
Having a split KB does help a bit.
After trying it out a couple of times, I rather stick with a game controller.

Posted by: unitself May 28 2004, 04:04 PM

Yeah, but I have an extra arm and seven fingers on each hand, so....
I think I could make it work.
beigeroll.gif

What I am talking about is mapping things to F Keys or something. Like the way you can do with text balloons now. Or the even the way they combo'd the D-Pad with the triggers or just something...
Speaking of... does any one own one of those combo controllers / keyboard thingies?

You can't set it to the F keys. They function as shortcuts to mail, chat, etc.
I own the ASCII Keyboard controller.. I use it all the time. At least for PSO.

It's pretty cool to play pso on the pc, but as far as menus go, I was playing all by memory and reflex. It took me a while to get my PS2 controller set up with the right combination. When I first started the game, I mistakenly set the resolution at 1280x1024, but it ran pretty good at that setting, with minor slowdown in Pioneer 2. I went back and switched it to 1024x768 and it runs perfect. The graphics at this resolution resemble the Dreamcast when utilizing a VGA Converter.

I don't know how much I will play this, but cool to have nonetheless.

Added PSOBB Section ID calculation and other stuff.
Cool site. Check it out.
Character class are now a factor for section ID's

Totally agree. My favorite parts of PSO were EN & C-mode. From the little I've played of this so far is seems tough!

Question: Is there a site where I can find menu translations?

Posted by: DJ_Donkey May 29 2004, 10:29 PM

There's this guy at PSOW that compiled a visual guide for this.
http://pwp.netcabo.pt/Ichimoto/psobb/
It's a pretty good guide. Though I thought it would be better if he typed the translations IN the pictures (at least for the simplier menus).

And a trouble-shooting guide by Arislan I think. Pretty cool guy.

For the beta, yes. It's pretty understandable that Sonic Team wants to slow everyone down and make progress slower. Though all the quests are basically mini Endless Nightmares, it's still pretty fun. I mean, there's no one with a hacked weapon or mag or anything like that. Fighting wave after wave of Hildebears by yourself equipped with a lv10 mag and a 10% Native saber is always fun.

-oh and a small update =)

Posted by: Crushinator May 30 2004, 12:54 AM

Ok i'm online with this now. See you guys there!

EDIT: I didn't see any of you guys on, but this is a pretty sweet version of PSO. I really like how you have to do "Missions" to get to the new areas. It adds a neat twist to the old PSO.

My roommate and I were playing till 7 in the morning beigelaugh.gif

The file is smaller than the torrent one =T

Whee, so how do you go about doing this? Just dl that and you're good to go? I was too lazy to bother with PSOW's instruction, that mess of msgs beigebiggrin.gif

Posted by: DJ_Donkey Jun 3 2004, 08:46 AM

Well it IS an .exe file sooo... Just double click and install.
To type and such, you have to change your IME settings.

Posted by: Sheik Jun 8 2004, 03:03 PM

Okay, I finally got mine downloaded...thanks to GetRight.

Here is some additional info that you might need also.
I did the signup this morning and it took a few minutes to register my username/password with SEGA.

First, download this file from:
http://dl.segaonline.jp/psobb/psobb_ver13_official.exe

This is the installation file.
The download is about 386MB and downloaded at about 6.00k/sec. Slow.

After you get the file you need to register a username.
Go to this web page:
https://ipas.isao.net/signup_pso/psobb/signup_index.htm

Click the button below...the accept button (the lower left button).
On the next page enter your email address two times...to confirm.

You will then receive an email in a few moments.
Open up the email and follow the link provided.

This next part is the fun one. Please see picture below:
(mmm...maximum upload size is 40 K...and my image is 77K in size! that bites..I have to resize the image. I hope it is still readable)
You MUST type Japanese these fields or it will not be accepted.

For a name you can make one up or simply use something like this below.
Copy and paste if you wish.
Use this for both the upper and lower name fields.
Name Last: ドウ
Name First: ジョン
(John Doe)

For the address and phone numbers feel free to type in some numbers there.
For the street/city address line it is a little more complex.
You can just type something like this:
東京都八王子市寺田町

Choose a user name between 6 and 8 characters long.
You can put the same name in for all 3 choices, but they must be filled out.
After this is done and your data is accepted you will get another email from SEGA with your password. Start BlueBurst and choose the second to last option. Enter your userID and password and you are set.

That's it. The rest of PSO you should know. The menus should not be too difficult.
Enjoy~ I will be playing with PSOBB later today.

This game plays just like the GameCube version...with a few differences.

I just finished off the forest and the dragon boss at level 5.

Kinda fun. Who else is playing this and where do we meet at usually?
Do we want to set a ship/block to meet at?

Patches, patches, patches.
Posted by Arislan @ PSOW:

After the maintenance today, there will be a new patch, bringing BB to 1.8.0

Patch changes, from STs site

- Alt+F4 is changed to Alt+Backspace
- Lobby commands have changed from ctrl+key to alt+key (great, so now alt+q screwup s will alt-tab us out...)
- A Dark Belra attacking with an arm shot and being killed at the same time could cause the computer to crash. This should be solved, but any bug reports should be forwarded to ST.
- Pressing the Back (Cancel) button while on the block select screen will now bring you back to the ship select. Pressing back from here will quit the game.
- Pressing back on the Transport menu from the Lobby Desk will now return you to the lobby. However, once ship or block transfer is chosen, cancellation is not possible.
- When viewing information on a party that has 3 or less members at the lobby screen, an indicator will be shown stating that the team is in a quest or when the team was created, as applicable.
- Forces now have their own completion prize weapons for clearing quests 1-3, 2-4, and 3-3.
- All Episode 2 quests may now be cleared by a single player (Episode 1 quests have already been changed to single player completion status)
- 1-1 Now has a timer for completion added to it.

Fixed errors
- Players viewing quest data while another player joins will now not crash out the player viewing the quest data.
- A freeze associated with entering an invalid character (non unicode supported) as a game password has been fixed.
- Speaking to Cal terminals in Episode 2 while the Team Log Window is displayed will no longer crash the client.
- A problem with recieving a message and keyboard operation being disabled has now been fixed.
- A problem with recieving a message and gamepad operation being disabled has now been fixed.

A couple of notes of my own:
It seems that Ah-King has left PSOBB as the RAGOL clan was no more when I logged on.
I made another team called "Apocalypse". king.gif

- When viewing information on a party that has 3 or less members at the lobby screen, an indicator will be shown stating that the team is in a quest or when the team was created, as applicable.
I checked this out and it was pretty nifty. =)

Sheik, there aren't many players (at least English speaking ones) playing PSOBB to begin with.
I'm always in Leo Block 3 (PSOW block) in the afternoons. Night time is reserved for GC beigeroll.gif

Posted by: DJ_Donkey Jun 27 2004, 08:36 PM

With the way things are going, PSOBB is slowly losing interest (at least for me... I guess playing with the keyboard only has taken its toll).
Anyway, I jumped on today and I was greeted with some more patches.
One of which caught my eye:

Well, looks like the beta for this is over. It is also quite expensive to buy if you go to the web site to purchase the huner's license. It is either 1,050 yen (about $10.50) for 30 days with automatic credit card billing or 1,250 yen for 30 days without automatic renewal. Looks like I am sticking with the el cheapo GC version...it is only 1,500 yen (about $15.00) for 3 months.

I just got a email today about the trial for PSO BB being over...I think everyone that signed up for it will get this message. If you wish to buy a hunter's license you can at this address I believe. Use your exisiting GAME ID and PASSWORD.

Oh, and it will download a utility called "game protect." It must be something to prevent hacking on the game software and cheating. It installed it into PSO on the last update.

If you ask me, these weapons look like the ones in the PSU Flash movie.
According to THE super PSO site, PSOW,
The sword is called, "Daisy Chain",
dagger is called "Daylight Scar",
and the gun is called "Le Onia".

New Dark monster, "Golan"

user posted image
Oddly named, "Melissa-A" wtf?

The monster in my previous post is called "Astok".

And the new story (roughly) goes...
A meteorite approaches near planet Ragol according to the analysis of pioneer 2
But there is no danger of collision for both Ragol or Pioneer 2
However a strange light appears from Ragol hitting the meteorite, and changes its destination...to Ragol.
The impact causes a huge crater to be left on Ragol's surface.
And even now a strange light is coming from within that crater.
The impact crater on Ragol is now to be investigated to discover what caused the collision, and what that light is...

Man, I'm torn between this game and Monster Hunter...

EP.4 on BB only... drag.
PC too.
*strike two!*
We still don't anything about the new PSU, do we? Console? GC or GCNext (or whatever it's called)? PC? Any news at all about the platform?

One thing that makes me sad though is the fact that it looks like all Sega did was just repaint the existing monsters models. There is still a Slime.. there is still a Booma.. and so on. It'd be really nice if they added a lot of new ways to play. Like air combat or something... i dunno... just thinking off the top of my head.

Super Soaker... HAHA! very nice one! beigelaugh.gif

Theres no new PSU news that I can dig up. Theres still a bunch of speculation going on.
As for the new monsters, they all have an attack of their own.
It's not anything awesome (at least on paper... maybe it'll look cooler in-game).

Jacked from PSOW:

It'll be awesome if it DOES shoot water.

Man, that looks so cool. I know if they released something similar to this on Camecube I would hop on it ASAP.

Oh, for those that don't know PSO has 2 new quests. Phantismal World 1 & 2. Pretty much like Ep2 version of Endless nightmare. Tons of fun with barrel load of of the mini bosses at the end with cool new fixed Resident Evilish Camera views. omzgwtf 4 gibbles. @_@

Way to screw over the console fanbase that liked your game in the first place. Can't Sonic Team get anything right?

Maybe not but they are updating the game occassionally. Changes were made and I have no complaints.
Like sayyyy Olga Flow on Ultimate difficulty: 61,750 EXP

There's also a rumored translation under way & MAYBE a US release:
From the information given via inquiry, "translation of PSO:Blue Burst (herein known as PSO:BB) is scheduled. However, a released date for US side has not been determined, and at this point it not wise to say it will be released at all. " Furthermore the inquiry states, "For US it will remain a tentative title. If the decision is made to bring PSO:BB to US players this year, the earliest possible release date will be Mid-Febuary 2005."
Source: http://www.planetdreamcast.com/psoworld/viewtopic.php?topic=90709&forum=1&18

In the meantime, yes its entirely in Japanese.
It may or may not tie in PSU. That's just speculation on my part (and among other people).

And now, some gameplay footage from the TGS courtesy of GameSpot:
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/phantasystarblueburst/media.html

Kinda blah. But I'll reserve any additional judgement until all the facts come out beigeroll.gif

I wouldn't be surprised if blue burst was just a form of beta like pso version 1 was for dreamcast.
