Thought I should post this even though none of us still care about the game anymore. Jump button! :O -------------------- "Brotherhood asked for no friendship, only loyalty. They stood back to back as the galaxy burned - always brothers, never friends; traitors together unto the last." --an Excerpt from a Night Lords Novel Void Stalkers Chapter X: Revenge |

I have to give the team credit, at the very least they realize their game was fucked and they are being very transparent on their intentions to fix it. We never EVER knew anything in the pipeline for FFXI until basically the day before the patch.
It will be very interesting to see where FF14 ends up when its all said and done, suffice it to say its going to be very different from the game it was 5 months ago. One of the change notes made me realize something I hadn't been able to put my finger on with the game before: QUOTE Higher visibility of the optimal rank of items Changes to the color of item names to convey the disparity between optimal rank and a player's current rank Currently assessing costs of implementation Color categorization of item names One of the big drives in an MMO to progress is to get that badass gear and look more badass, and of course level up so you can equip said gear. Because FF14 lets you equip anything at any level, it kind of takes away that coolness. If you could somehow acquire it, you could be rocking the most awesome looking gear and still be level retarded. The game wasn't very clear on indicating the penalties you received by equipping stuff that was out of your range, too. -------------------- |

What purpose does jumping serve in any game? Its a means of traversal.
Remember every fucking shit fuck ledge that was ankle high but your guy couldn't walk up it for some mysterious reason on FFXI? Same fucking shit on FF14. If you can jump up a ledge and not have to walk 300 feet to side just to get to where you need to go that is definitely a good thing. It's not like they're making it into Super Mario Galaxy where you need to triple jump over a chasm to get to the (non-existent) chocobo hut. -------------------- |

Instant cast spell, but target has to be in front arc. Run away jump, quick turn with mouse and cast then turn back before landing. No forward momentum lost, still got spell off. Debuff that stacks the longer you remain in a static spot, tanks don't want to be moving their target all over, turning em etc, so just jump. Even EverQuest had uses in fights for jumping. |

The terrain is really bad in FFXIV in parts; there really needs to be a jump as a means to traverse the areas faster. That or make all the terrain flat, which would look unrealistic and take away from it supposed to be an immersive virtual world.

Well, they are trying, like Crush said. It really isn't too difficult to make the gameplay better...
ADD CONTENT!!!! *Ahem* Games like WoW and even DC universe the new have 1000s of quests to do. FF14 has barely 100. Make the game streamlined, playable, and unsluggish. It's not that hard to restructure the game, but it will be a very time consuming process. |
