Photon Blast in C7, why not? Options

I know that you can get a Photon Blast in C7 if you feed your Mag once. I play with alot of Japanese and I see that they get a fully charged blast after a few rooms like anyone else. My question is why don't they ever use the PB? Is there some secret strategy to keeping it at 100% the entire map? Usually they end up unleashing the PB in the last room after all the monsters are dead and the timer has stopped.

Anyone have any insight?

Low level mags usually do not grant their owners any sort of bonus when they hit 100% (invincinility, S/D) and photon blasts take about 10 seconds to complete, making them a vitrual waste of time in Challenge mode.

Since the Japanese players are using the Photon blast after the completion of the challenge, i can only say this is somewhat like casting multiple GiFoie's after killing Dark Falz. ("Whee!")

As a robot, i usually use some non-essential items to feed my mag when running from room to room, IF there is NO ONE that may need them during that particular challenge. But that's just to break the tension of trying to run faster than the game's programming allows.

I get the wasting time using a PB, but why bother gaining a PB at all? In difference to what you said concerning no bonuses, I have received Invincibility from a fully charged PB before. And I think the might of Golla unleashed on a room full of Belras, Sorcerers and Dels would compensate for the extra few wasted seconds.

I guess the real goal is obtaining a precious point of ATA. Does anyone know offhand what level DEX is when you start Stage 7, and how far it will need to be raised to gain +1 ATA?

I have yet to figure this out.

It only takes one item in C7 to raise the DEX on your mag, so its not a major hardship, and the chance of invincibility is nice, but whenever I've actually used a PB in challenge, the general response has been a chorus of "w"s.

I can understand one downside of the PB would be, that it throws off the rest of the team if done in the middle of a fight. I've actually been killed during another players blast.

well yea if you use a PB in challenge you lose valuable seconds in the blast, unless of course the one with the full PB goes and uses it in the room first before anyone else enters then only the PB user and the monsters are stuck ( to me this is actually a really good strategy to do if you can comunicate that you're going to do it, I mean frozen monsters are easier to kill :D )

My thought would be that the timer would run down if you did it, and that would be an obvious reason why...


Hmm maybe doing combo blasts in c mode will give and s and d effect or stronger blast?
