Well yesterday morning my computer died, it would power up but do nothing. After trying everything under the sun and talking to Crush last night, pretty much nailed the problem to the mother board. I ended up ordering a replacement of the same model, other wise it would be pretty much a full rebuild with new proc, ram, etc. and I dont have the money for that now. Thankfully my old mac still works so I can use that to surf the web, use messenger, etc. untill the new board arrives and hopefully it doesn't arrive d.o.a.

What brand of motherboard did you order to replace it? Make sure you get one with like a 2 or 3 year warranty.

Also it might be prudent to get a new PSU as well, even if the old one is still functioning, blown/damaged capacitors in it may have killed your old motherboard. And get a new surge protector too, if yours is more than a year old it might be risky to use, too.

Same one I had in it, a MSI K8N Neo4-f, though the sucky thing is I could only find it on ebay with out a price gouge, though I do have a 2 year warranty on it (the old one only had a year on it) didn't think about the PSU though.

At least it wasn't due to Vic Vapor Rub. :(

New mother board showed up today, got it in easy enough, but it was a newer version, so I got what needed from the main hard drive backed up, and now currently in the process of reinstalling stuff after a reformat and windows reinstall

sorry to hear that. my computer went from bad to worse. first the pci slots all died now my hdd died. there goes all my hentai/yuri >_>. i could salvage it by buying a usb modem since i have 2 spare HDD's but i wonder whats going to go wrong next, plus id have to use win98 since for some reason XP always gives me an error during the install. im thinking if its possible maybe ill just get broadband for my ps2 and ps3 assuming the cable company will allow me to without having a pc.

Buy a new computer. It's not worth fucking with that old shit if its dying like that. You are basically putting a feeding tube on a vegetable. Here's an good one i threw together for you, and its under $500:

SATA DVD-RW drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16827106100
Case+Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811138074
120 Gig SATA Hard Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822136225
2 Gigs Corsair DDR2 ram
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820161063
EVGA Motherboard with Nvidia 7150 onboard graphics
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813188021
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2ghz E4500
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115031
Vista Home Premium
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16832116202

Bottom line: $481.93, $509 shipped to Columbus via UPS 3 day.

This is an extremely budget build, but if all you use the computer for is web access and porn its will own. The onboard graphics card can still handle shit like WoW and FFXI, but don't expect to play Crysis on this. beigelaugh.gif All the parts are decent quality stuff too, not knockoff jip jap ching chong stuff.

The only thing I would possibly change is the tower and power supply, because the included 430w is not sufficient if you were to add a dedicated video card later.

the only games i would play on a pc are mmo's or shit like command and conquer maybe psu since its just a matter of time before i retire my ps2. and i live in cleveland bro i doubt it would be much difference though.

Sell your PSDeuce and get the computer, you need it! If you're still using a machine that had 98 on it you are in the PC ghetto for sure.
