Something interesting I just came across whilst procrastinating at work:
http://phantasystaruniverse.com/ The domain name is registered to Sonic Team, so it looks like it's authentic. Could a MMORPG or PS 5 be in the works? |

I'm absolutely speechless... That trailer is *gorgeous*! Given the number of environments and character classes featured, it looks lika a real MMORPG (no more pioneer 2/lobby crap, and not based on 4 year old PSO code) to me.
Pure speculation, but it looks like they’ve introduced HUnewms and made the androids humanoid as opposed to mech-like (see the girl with the horns). This meshes better with the old games IMHO, but I wonder how RAcast fans will react if it’s true… *drifts off thinking about HUmarl artifact armor* |

After doing some research, I didn't find any concrete evidence that this will be on all platforms. Only to see, "No info on platforms or release date were made available." I wouldn't be surprised if it IS on ALL platforms. -------------------- |

Well, you'll notice I become an ass when a lot of people suddenly "cream" over something that they hardly know about. The video looked neat, a lot of glitter and explosions, just be carefull about getting too hyped up about a game's promo trailer, usually you'll get burned and be disappointed, and dis it later on as much as possible.
:waits til more info before deciding on orgasming over it: ;P |

I'm an oldschool Phantasy Star fan, back in the 80s during the master system day. I've never been let down from this series, and I'm not one to get excited about anything...except Phantasy Star, Shining Force, and Guardian Heroes. Phantasy Star is a commonality that all of the AT and longer standing AT associates share here. Many fun hours were had and great bonds were formed. It's not just about the game, but the series and it's relationship to AT. Assuming this game is online, its value comes more from it being a common unifier for a lot of us. If not, the pure nostalgia of the PS series really hits home with a lot of it's older fans and the ATers who have grown to love the series. So, it really runs deeper then a fancy trailer, but I guess it might not seem that way to some. It's an AT/PS fan thing I guess... |

Yea it's just some pretty cool intro movie or something. I think too many people are assuming this to be another MMORPG. When really its seems like its going to be just a good ol regular RPG. I am making this hypothesis based on information given to me from a reliable source and from watching the intro movie. The intro movie seems to be forming a sort of story around the characters shown. But this is just my opinion so...

Current speculation (and how I hope this turns out to be true) is that there will be completely seperate offline and online modes. Thus Online will be PSO 2, and offline PSV
Doesn't matter to me though, they had me sold at "Fonewearl" Hopefully they can get the game out by the end of 2005 |

This thought just poped in my head. Since there is no game footage, and Sonic Team is messing with our heads.
This could possibly be a Chronicles type game with Phantasy Star 1, 2, 3 and 4 on one disk, like FF1, 2, and 3 for PS1. Who knows. But it's highly likely. |

If you watch the flash video carefully, you can catch some in game footage. Its very fast and blurry tho. Theres one where you see a blue FOmar type standing in town holding a saber in one hand, and what appears to be a handgun in the other. Another part shows the same blue guy doing a two hit multiple slash combo on a bunch of simular looking baddies.
Hmm... [EDIT]: OMG, Kart racing mini game anyone? Hahaa *wants a hover-board* |

Welcome to an episode of Kazzy Kaz's game detective show! Aka: Kaz's BS that he might not even believe himself. -.-;
Okay lets start with what I have found from clues on PS boards and gaming sites. IGN: "The only other concrete details we learned was that this is going to be an action MMORPG." - [LINK] My view: Hmm, I've always been iffy with the infomation coming from IGN, or most gaming sites, and mags for that matter. But would a high profile gaming site really use the word "concrete" without somehow, somewhere getting info from someone...that it will be the genre of what they proclaim it'll be? Hmmm. Hard one... but going from that alone.. I'm pretty excited. Next.. my speculation of gameplay from movies/artwork/etc. From the movie along I can see these classes will be in the game: HUmar type- the pretty boy with the saber and hover board. Dresses in a techy J-pop style atire. HUnwmen type- The big hairy eared dude that transforms into beast mode (Altered Beast anyone?). Reg. form attire is techy yet classic traveling vest. A female version may exsist as well from certain artwork. HUcast type- The horned chick fights him (pvp?) and he's one of the dudes shown in a pose at the end. Robo Samurai and new armor looks very bug like (think Yoshimitsu). HU or RAnwearl type - The horned chick? Dresses in body hugging neon suits. FOnwearl type- the chick that blast stuff with ice. Dresses in neo-traditional Japanese clothing. FOmar type- the dude in the blue robe and saber at the begining of the 3 omni-dragon scene. Style hasn't changed much it seems, but top part of body is less boxu and more body hugging. Longer robe as well. RAcaseal type- The chick with that wierd armor, looks like gaint machanical arms? Also very bug like in armor, but slimmer and more feminine then HUcast. Overall the visual style seems to take on a more Neo-Asian look. From archetiecture to wepeon design and clothing style. No more moon boots, big balloon skirts, tight fitting bulky body armor, etc. Thats all I can tell from the media available. I'll add more of my speculations when I can dig more up. Let me remind you that none of this is solid fact.. just my thoughts from doing some detective work. |

I'm thinking HUmarl The horns are possibly just for show, and her hair is covering any natural ears. A RA wouldnt be uses a dagger either, plus you can sort of see her toss a slicer at the dragon in the video Now this thing, I have no clue on. I want to say RAnewearl, but she's not shown with any weapons (that I've noticed) However, when she does her pose in the video in the video, you can very briefly see her outfit better... and it looks like an old school HUmar getup with the giant shorts and all. If this is the new HUnewearl, more than a few people will be pissed off Possibly they are going to divide up newman into two races, the more classic human looking ones, and the beastmen |

Thats what I'm talking about!
Now that I see it more carefully... looks like a 360 round slash. Wow, look at those dudes fly. Maybe their giving us FFXI Weapeon Skill type attacks? Build up TP bar > Unleash Hell. O.O |

That does look like game footage, but I question what machine it's running on. Can a GC look that good? yeah.. I say 'good' even though it's blurry as hell.
We have no release date or anything, do we? Like even a 'Fall 2006' or something? -------------------- |

Oh...it had better at least be on the Gcube, cause I can't imagine having to buy a whole nother system just for this game (although I probably would.)
I would be happy with a release date of Summer 2004, but there's no way in hell that'd happen. -_-; *Sigh* too bad. -------------------- PSO...still alive and kicking |

You know, now that you say that, it does seem like it. There's like a pink blur to the right of the hunter. And there's also a dark figure right in front that isn't getting knocked on his ass. lol...it's like we're scavanging for any and all PSU info. -------------------- PSO...still alive and kicking |

~after reviewing all available trailers about a bazillion+ times, it's logical to say that S-team is further along in development of PsU than originally specified.. after all, the tid-bits of gameplay sequences speak for themselves ~ meaning that they have fleshed out a graphics engine with rendered archetypes performing some amazing combos.. Oo also, online/offline play is more than likely - the hint is given at the beginning of the direct-feed trailer ~ PsO 2? lol, that's an enticer that will grab our attention most certainly...i would be very surprised if online/offline play wasn't incorporated..
... however, it's uncertain if PsU will arrive as a final-gen game before the advent the next-gen consoles; or, perhaps PsU will pioneer the next-gen as a first-gen game.. =. |

Hmm...a Next gen game? Assuming the game is incredibly premature in it's developement, that is a possibilty. If the game is far more fleshed out then we are led to believe, it would probably appear on one of the systems soon. Most sega PSO games have been on the gamecube and Xbox.

~true, & since no next-gen news was unveiled at this year's e3 (thus far, anyway..) - we could all be very fortunate to have PsU before the next-gen consoles arrive..

ok... so according to usenet, PSU has been given a tentative date of Summer 2005. They also only mention PS2, but that could mean anything. As in the console wars are still as strong as ever in usenet world.

Yeah its sorta like when PSO Ep. I&II was coming out for XBOX.
Anyone remember, "OMG XBOX TEH GET PSO2!!@@"? Then everyone just shuts up when it finally came out. Hehehe. So for now, everything goes in the BS bucket. -------------------- |

A year? We have to wait a whole year? I don't think I can take it. Well, I guess that gives me plenty of time to wrap up with ep I&II then. I wonder how many people would still play it once this game is released. I'm betting next to none. -------------------- PSO...still alive and kicking |

That is a legitimate fear.
Just look at how TFLO (xbox mmorpg) is going. We've known about this game for well over a year now and it keeps getting pushed back and back and back. It now has the same mid 2005 release for the USA. I understand that companies want to create as much hype as they can for the newest game, but it's almost like a "crying wolf" syndrome. After awhile, we are just like, "pfft... whatever." Does anyone here at AT even own the Xbox PSO? If so, what's it like online? I have heard nothing but bad things, but it can't really be all that bad! I keep seeing it for super cheap and for some @#$%ed up reason I have to slap myself into NOT buying it! Completist? Moron? :D -------------------- |

I have PSO for the XBox and I love it! Voice chat is the greatest of all things, and I really enjoyed it in the game. There are always some annoyances to put up with, stupid people and kids and such, but you get that no matter what. It just takes these people a little longer to type out their comments than it does to say them. Still once you got into your room with the four people, it was a lot better and chat really helps out games like this. Which is one of the reasons I can't wait for TFLO if it ever comes out (which I am starting to doubt).
