Apocalypse Tribe HQ _ Final Fantasy Online _ AT Crafting Skills

Posted by: HC82 Sep 26 2010, 09:31 PM

After putting a bit of time into FFXIV, the first thing I noticed is that equipment is much too expensive to buy and that making a single piece of gear or an item requires many different tradeskill sets in combination. This wouldn't be an issue if there was an auction house, but currently there isn't. Even if there was an auction house, it might still be an issue due to the large variety of items floating around with unknown combinations.

Let's take this opportunity to share the skills we are leveling and what we are in need in. The easiest way to do this would be to post your profile from the official final fantasy lodestone website. It shows your character profile, along with all your skill levels. The link is always active and shows exactly we're your skill levels are at in game. As a team, we can assist each other in crafting the items we need to progress as a group. If I have armorer level 11 as an example and you need a mat made, for a level 11 leatherworker item, this is the place to figure out who knows what.

Find your character here to get their stat sheet:

Right now I'm most proficient in Leather Working and Armorer. I intend to focus on Armorer the most, but leatherworking will be a compliment. I'm looking to make some of the leather gear, but I'm noticing it requires some alchemy and weaving, in addition to armorer. I'll post the items ill be needing later on, since most people haven't broke level 10 in their desired tradeskills.

Let's post our characters so we can get a glimpse of our skillsheets. Hopefully the link is an active link and always updates itself. If not, then we'll just have to periodically edit the link.

Here's Linka's

I'm focusing on leatherworking and goldsmithing, though I do plan on getting alchemy and blacksmithing to 10, and maybe armorer too. I do agree it is a pain to have to have all these different crafts to make some thing, and then having to go out and farm mats on top of that, is very time consuming.

As shown in the screen shot thread I can make sheepskin harnesses, wristguards, and subligars. With goldsmithing I can do copper earrings, collars, and wristlets, though it seems I can never get a copper ring synth to work :(

Majoring in leatherworking, woodworking, and minoring in blacksmithing.

I'd planned on letting all of you guys take care of the crafting, and mooching off of your success. Just ask Knightsword.

What crafts are there "holes" in in the LS? I'll be happy to help "pick up the slack" in whatever needs doing when I join the game.

Same as crush, I'll fill in gaps. Can probably go cooking like in ffxi, also have armorer at 9. Need to get tools for gathering and get working there. My odd play times kind of promote a heavy harvest/craft play.

I haven't noticed anyone doing cooking (culinary), alchemy, and not so much focus of weaving. Weaving is actually pretty good because I've noticed that the armor sets for leather working and weaving can give alternative stat boosts in some production based skills. Where as the heavy armor is purely suited for combat based stats. Ergo, everyone will want some pieces of weaving and leather armor to boost their success rate and gather rate for tradeskills. I can imagine cooking is needed for pimpy stat boosts (with fishing to compliment it) and alchemy allows for potions, which I simply haven't seen in many stores.

I'll go ahead and stake a claim on cooking (fishing) focus then.

Posted by: Crushinator Oct 1 2010, 10:40 AM

Sounds like i'll do weaving and alchemy (SCIENCE!) then! buttrock.gif

What are the harvesting jobs? I suppose botanist is the best gathering class to support those, right?

So I've been working on a kind of form we can all use to post requests and organize our crafting needs. Take a look here:

https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0ApwpgMs0tspRdGFWanN1SVQxS2t4WktLcnhlb1IzTlE&hl=en&authkey=CMr11uUN

It's kind of self explanatory.
The idea is since we pretty much can't get anywhere far without crafting in this game, and that most synths require materials from other crafts - using this spreadsheet would be a good place for members to request big or complicated orders that other members can take up if they choose to. I would assume that once a crafter decides to take a request, the two parties would work out how to go about getting materials and whatever other discussion is needed to get the job done.

It's editable for anyone right now.
At the moment I have it unlocked and open to the public, but I'd like to make it private to only people invited through giving me your email.

Anyway, lemme know what you guys think of this and if there's anything that can be improved and streamlined for more efficiency.

What did he do the one I made him on moday, thats what I want to know, lousy moocher. (yes I know its an example)

Looks great, and yes it will be very useful. One suggestion is make each craft its own sub sheet, to save off confusion, scrolling and walls of text merging together.

Nice! We'll be weaving alchemy buddies then!

We still need someone to pick up armorer and we should be all set then.

I think HC said he plans to focus on Armorer up above. I've noticed its getting pretty hard to level multiple crafts with the limited amounts of leves we're allowed each day.

Posted by: Knightsword Oct 1 2010, 12:15 PM

Aye, I ended up just sticking to leather for the time being, though once it hits 21, its back to goldsmithing. My biggest complaint about crafting is the asinine levels you need to be to make materials for synths that are level one. I have yet found any one selling iron spikes so I can make sheepskin calligae, yet I did find someone the other night with calligae for sale ><

Posted by: Crushinator Oct 1 2010, 02:13 PM

There better be a subligar waiting for me when I log in!

Posted by: Knightsword Oct 1 2010, 07:02 PM

Standard issue gray harness and subligar is waiting for you

Right now I'm doing Mining to compliment the craft I'm planning on doing which is Smithing and maybe Armorer. But after going through this thread thinking I should switch to harvester and Woodworking since it seems like no one is taking that up.

Can someone hook me up with a fucking sword? I've been using my god damn noob weapon since the start of the game.

I was able to buy a shield from a bazaar, but I still have the basic starter gladius. beigerolleyes.gif

I dunno about you guys, but the whole crafting system has had me pretty confused. Colors? Sparks? Off-hand tools?

Until recently I'd just been spamming "standard synth" and hoped for the best, but this guide about the crafting mini game kind of cleared things up for me, and I've been a LOT more successful.

QUOTE
Crafting Mini Game:

The objective is to hit 100% progress before your progress gets to 0.

You have 4 options (you need to make a choice before bar expires or you lose durability):
Standard Synthesis = Normal progression/quality gain. Primarily uses this for skillup.
Rapid Synthesis = Forgo quality (0 or very low) for high progress gain (up to 30% without skill), high chance to unstablize the crafting (cause spark). Best not to spam it, and put in plenty of wait before or after so you don't spark the orb.
Bold Synthesis = Forgo progress (very low gain) for quality
Wait = not do anything, reset bar and potentially change orb colour. Cost 1 Durability + 1 for each additional wait. Use this during unfavorable condition. I wait anywere from 1-3 times in a row. You will use this a lot too.
Touch Up Available after you reach 100% on finished product, allow you to reroll a result to see if you can get HQ (+1), HIGH chance of disaster on consecutive use. Not recommended when below 35 durability.

The prompt bar (above the 4 actions) has NO IMPACT on your progress, so you don't need to wait for a certain length to click it.

Orb Condition:

Yellow = High Success for Normal/Bold, chance to consume no durability on normal
White = Normal success rate
Red = High Risk, but possible to reward more quality points on success. Might be worthwhile for HQ synth. [Source: SE]
Flashing Orb = Roulette, use at your own risk (I usually wait 1-3 times on these)
Sparks = unstable, thus increase risk and reduce success chance
Large Ring = HIGHLY Unstable, causes quality and durability damage on fail. (best to wait..., but I have waited up to 5 times and it still stay unstable... so if you get a solid yellow/white, try to use a normal synthesis and hope it goes away)

For me personally, I'm only crafting to gain exp right now. So for me basically i'm only doing standard on yellow or gold orbs, then waiting on everything else. If i've waited over 3 times on a flashing (random) orbs then i just go for standard and hope for the best.

I'm looking to follow HC82's advice and get some crafting clothes too, since the level 10 levequests are getting a little hairy. Can anyone on here make them, or know a NPC to get them from?

Posted by: HC82 Oct 19 2010, 06:05 PM

I've got some spare crafting gear Crush, since I just upgraded mine recently. Also I have some decent weavery skill to create the hempen-line of "Crafting" Armor set. When I made my set it helped me out with my higher level crafting quests.

Also, if you're crafting skills is over level 7, consider investing in the level 7 crafting weapon or the level 12 crafting weapon. It should be easy to find on the market. It more then doubles your crafting skill points and pretty much makes or breaks your progression in crafting
