Apocalypse Tribe HQ _ The Lounge _ tunes from the past

Posted by: unitself Oct 8 2005, 10:20 AM

DivA started the thread of "What are you listening to at the moment?".
So, I thought it would be fun to dredge up something that you haven't listened to in a long long time.

This morning it was Cabaret Voltaire - Arm of the Lord album. Right now, it's Poesie Noire doing covers of Uncertain Smile (The The) and A Night Like This (The Cure). Excellent.

Ever since we started this radio thing, I have been rediscovering lots of great stuff I haven't appreciated in ages. Here's a small sample of some songs that come to mind, from cds that I literally had to blow the dust off.

Delerium - In Four Dimensions (Spheres 2)
Will - Kingdom Come (Word, Flesh, Stone)
Download - Glassblower (The Eyes of Stanley Pain)
Scorn - Scorpionic (Collosus)

I forgot I had a lot of these albums, they were great back then and even better now.

Leo Dan - Celia
Julio Iglesias - La carretera

Leo Dan, was an old spanish singer who I believe has long since passed.. He was like the spanish version of Paul Anka. Julio Iglesias is the spanish Frank Sinatra. My mom use to play alot of their songs in the house blasting them. Both of the songs by those two guys had really great mellow moods, good song to drink to. Which was something My grandparents and parents would do in the backyard as they drank their beers and smoked their cigars or cigarettes. Reminiscing about the old days and telling lewd spanish jokes that I wouldn't get till I grew up.

Great songs that make me feel alot of nostalgia.

Ok, since you are all listing things i have never heard of, i have to add my two cents worth.

Any thing by Neil Diamond, I covet a certain someone's inherited record collection <drools>.
Love Flogging Molly (they are so fun live) and the Pogues/Shane MacGowan. When I saw him live, i couldn't believe he was still alive, the man looks like the living dead but somehow manages to stand upright and sing the lyrics. That's the music i drink my jameson cokes to...mmmm whisky.
Oh, and since i'm an old sea hag, you have to put in the 80's hair bands. Oh like Kix, Kingdome Come, Cinderella, G & R....does anyone remember the Killer Dwarfs? Oh how about some Y & T?

Ok, I've geeked out enough...carry on. buttrock.gif

"Goin’ home, late last night
Suddenly I got a fright
Yeah I looked through the window and surprised what I saw
Fairy boots were dancing’ with a dwarf,

All right now!

Fairies wear boots and you gotta believe me
Yeah I saw it, I saw it, I tell you no lies
Yeah fairies wear boots and you gotta believe me
I saw it, I saw it with my own two eyes,

Well all right now!

So I went to the doctor
See what he could give me
He said son, son, you’ve gone too far.
’cause smokin’ and trippin’ is all that you do"

Wow... 80's hair metal... now that's just plain scary.
aww damn... now I have that Accept - Balls to the Wall album cover in my head. ARG! IT BURNS!!!

ok since this thread seems to only apply (mostly) to the post teen set, I will continue it.

Today is Stevie Wonder - Innervisions.
I saw him this morning on the TV. I'm not a fan of his newer stuff... well.. post late 70's anyways.. hahaa. Innervisions is a great CD. Golden Lady.. woot!

Well Black Sabbath was really a 70's band hehe...is that pic taken from you Dive or someone you know?...i sat that close to them up here in Montreal back in the days and remember taking some pictures, they turned out to dark though and i probably threw them away at some point...too bad maybe today with all the "photoshop" softwares i could of cleaned them up... bash.gif

No, sadly it's not a picture I or anyone I know took. I have never seen "classic" Sabbath in concert, save for their Ozzfest appearance.

I been appreciating the older music my favorite industrial artists made in the past lately.

On my mix CD right now, (which I just now noticed, IS older songs). . .

Velvet Acid Christ - Hallucinagene (Church of Acid)
Hocico - Sad Scorn (Odio Bajo el Alma)
Front Line Assembly - No Limit (Gashed Senses and Crossfire)
Leather Strip - Nosecandy (Fit for Flogging)
Skinny Puppy - Who's Laughing Now (VIVIsect VI)
Numb - Headcrash (Death On The Installment Plan)
Clock DVA - The Unseen (Buried Dreams)

Threw in a few old metal songs for some reason. . .

Morbid Angel - Chapel of Ghouls (Altars of Madness)
Broken Hope - Incinerated (Swamped In Gore)
Gwar - Captain Crunch (Hell-O)

Yeah, no where near the times I'm seeing in here. . what can I say, I'm young, and yearn for killer guitars and violent drums. beigebigrazz.gif

I've been listening to a lot of 80s New Wave recently. "Take On Me," "It's My Life," "I Ran," "Shout," "She Blinded Me With Science," you know the sound. I'm also ordering that http://www.timelife.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=92. It's got a lot of great music.

For the most part I really don’t revisit old music too much. I think I want to, but when I get around to it....its just blah...been listened out. I do really get into covers of old songs though. Especially 80's stuff. Most recently I’ve gone completely nutto for two dance covers by Groove Coverage: It’s a Sin (Pet Shop Boys) and Poison (Alice Cooper). No matter how far away the 80's get, I still get sucked back in. ^^

So this won't be of much interest to any but Retehi and Dive, but I drug out the first two Numb CD's yesterday. Holy hell those are both awesome discs.
Then today it was Leather Strip - Solitary Confinement.
