Apocalypse Tribe HQ _ The Lounge _ New here

Posted by: Nuriyan Jun 25 2009, 12:11 PM

Well, first I was invited here by AC9Breaker.

We knew each other through Ah King's message board when PSO Episode 1 and 2 was close to coming out..you know, back in the day of the Lord..that long ago it seems. Can't believe how fast time goes by. I was like..15 then or so, and am 22 now.

Anyways, I was hoping to find some other people here that used to post on Ah King's message board, as I have tons of memories to share from those days. Or just looking for fun conversation on here.

I miss the days of PSO on DC. The days when you would hear that modem dialing up to get online, getting RSOD'd, NOL'd, FSOD'd...all that fun stuff.

Also..the memories in Oberon....

I do have a 360. It doesn't really compare to DC gaming in my opinion, I really think DC was the best system..dare I say, ever.

It would be refreshing to here some of your memories from those days.

Welcome aboard! It's great to see a fresh face around here, and I hope you enjoy your stay.

It's interesting how so many of our first online gaming experiences were with PSO, and how that has set a standard for subsequent games. I don't believe anything post PSO has matched the excitement and wonderment so many of us had experienced. The Apocalypse Tribe was solidified in those lobbies and on the fields and dark corners of Ragol. I think part of the magic was the fact that everyone was so new to that type of gameplay. Like a drug, we keep trying to recreate that feeling, not quite reaching that plateau.

One of my favorite events in PSO was the large meeting where we had so many attending, that we needed to use two soccer lobbies to accommodate everyone. We did 2 man C1 Time Attack, and handed out prizes.

I unearthed the news topic from this event: http://apocalypse-tribe.com/athq/index.php?showtopic=413

Oh man.... those were some great times. I had played other online games prior to PSO, but none of them could top the enjoyment and wonderment it brought, even to this day. I remember always looking forward to coming home everyday and firing up my DC (and later GC) and playing until I got sleepy. I still have that Japanese ASCII keyboard from 2002 in a bin somewhere. Hell I'm sure some of you still have those keyboard adapters that Layrinn used to sell! Of course this was before Datel made their own keyboard for the GC. PSU was nice and had refined many aspects from PSO, but it just didn't feel quite the same.

Those duo C1 time attacks were a blast, I'd totally have to agree. Man, every time someone mentions PSO, all these memories just come flooding back.

Holy Crap, blast from the past there. Can't believe me and Crush didn't even rank in the top 3. You'd think an amazing team like that would win it hands down! amirite?

beigelaugh.gif Maybe you hadn't achieved your "Game Master" status by that point. We were still "Game Apprentices" hahaha.

Good times man.

Oh yeah, I remember Forever Zero.

Anyways, I do agree, PSO was the best online game to date and nothing has surpassed it for me. I remember when I first bought the game for Dreamcast I met up with a bunch of other guys and we started playing, then this level 100 guy came in and started to PK us for the next 15 minutes or so. I remember trying to run to the lobby exit but he kept on killing away. I also remember the countless times I got NOL'd and removed my VMU to avoid corruption, the countless number of times I got RSOD'd, FSOD'd, and the many times I would have to go to the Japanese ships just to get into a legit game. Everyone for the most part on the US ships hacked with a Soniti and Lavis Cannon, and would kill bosses in two hits. Thankfully I eventually met "the few, the proud" on the US servers that did play legit.

....ahh, that sucked, but was funny. I have so many more memories, but would be here forever typing it out.

It's a shame though. I met some of the greatest people online that I could talk to about anything in PSO. I mean, not as good as friends in real life - but still, some great people that I truly do miss talking to till this day. I look back on it like I mentioned earlier, I must have been 15 or 16 when it was on Dreamcast. Now I'm 22. I often do wonder "Where are they at today?" in terms of their lives, and what they're doing.

While PSO is still playable online on PC, it's nothing like it was on DC.

Ah King's site is here, you can access some stuff:

Haha that countdown is hilarious. I can't wait for the already released JP version of PSO GC that's coming out 2488 days ago. Can't wait to play the game again for the first time.

Hoooooly shit.... That really is a blast from the past. I used to go there all the time when the GCPSO trial was running. I still have the discs for both EP1&2 and EP3 trials buried somewhere!
