Apocalypse Tribe HQ _ Entertainment _ Metal Gear Solid V

Not sure why we never had a thread for the Metal Gear Ground Zeroes trailer, but I was waiting for a clean Youtube link to post "The Phantom Pain" which was revealed on the VGAs last week.

As you probably know by now, the trailer was shown under the guise of developer "Moby Dick Studios" directed by one Joakim Mogren. It's turned out this was a front, http://www.mobydickstudio.se/en/ doesn't exist and its a red herring for a Kojima game that may very well be another aspect of Metal Gear Solid 5. This could end up being the biggest mindfuck Kojima's pulled since Raiden being the main character in MGS2.

When I was watching the trailer as it premiered, to be honest I didn't pick up on the MGS hints. I did think that the segment where the character was stumbling/crawling through the hall reminded me of the microwave segment in MGS4, but I didn't make the whole connection. I thought it was going to be a psychological adventure game like the old PC title "Sanitarium".

Since we didn't already have a topic for it, here's the original Ground Zeroes trailer:

Here's some of the weird stuff from the trailer people have found tying it to MGS and specifically to MG Ground Zeroes:

METAL GEAR SOLID V hidden within the logo of The Phantom Pain

A floating person right at the end that looks like Psycho Mantis or The Sorrow

The solidiers clearing the hospital have the same equipment as the soldiers in Ground Zeroes

"From Fox, two phantoms were born" ???

At the start of the trailer, the main character (Naked Snake?) is grabbing at petals, like the kind in the field after Naked Snake kills the Boss in MGS3... and the animation/POV is similar to when Snake is trying to grab a butterfly after he loses his eye in MGS3.

This burning dude looks extremely similar to Volgin:

And of course when we finally get a reveal of the character's face, it has Snakes trademark scruff and mullet.

Needless to say I'm totally hyped by this, TROLLJIMA fucking with us at the top of his game. I have to wonder if this is really targeted for current gen systems though, or if its actually going to be on next gen platforms.

What if this is all just a coincidence and it's an entirely different game? Boy, will your face be red.

Then I'll have to get banned again, right?

All those trailers are mind fucks. In the Ground Zeroes trailer, the zoom up on Snake is him old with grey hair, but when they do the 3rd person view where he's infiltrating, his hair is brown and he's younger.

Trolljima indeed. Either way the games look great.

omg I am so hyped for this shit.

Naked snake makes the most sense for a multitude of reasons, but I'm totally ok with that since 3 is still my favorite in the series. But yeah, that's MGS5, not a doubt in my mind.

Well here's the confirmation. Both Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain are collectively Metal Gear Solid V. Also, DEM GRAPHICS.

Hype level is off the richter scale...

Here's the gameplay trailer of some of the hospital portion, which is supposed to be the tutorial area:

The fuckin CHILD PSYCHO MANTIS!!!!

Also important to note:

David Hayter is NOT the voice of the main character (Big Boss?) this game.

Konami confirmed that Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain are indeed SEPERATE games even though they both comprise MGS5.

Confirmed for both PS3 and 360, no word on next gen systems but rumors are they will reveal a PS4/Durango release at E3.

I don't know how much I like an MGS without David hayter voicing the snake.

Donkey had an interesting theory about it... What if the reason Hayter isn't voicing Big Boss in this game is because by the end of this game TROLLJIMA has you meet up with and/or face off with SOLID SNAKE who will actually be voiced by David Hayter, while Big Boss settles into his voice (Richard Doyle) that he has in MGS4?

I dunno man. It's a tough sell for me, especially since the Japanese voice actor is reprising his role. It's just weird for me to see that face and hear a different voice. I'm sure I will still buy it, but I might wait a little bit before I decide to drop 60 bucks on it. I usually get really hyped up for metal gear games, and I have to own them. The news is kind of over shadowing the hype right now, so it's definitely possible I'd wait it out a bit.

It's confirmed, Kiefer is in, Hayter is out.

SOLID SNAKE/JACK BAUER PAUER HAUER IS A GO!

Does this mean we'll have 24 hours worth of cutscenes now?

Posted by: DarkEpyon Jun 7 2013, 02:54 PM

I'll withhold any judgments until I hear it in-game. He's certainly got some big shoes to fill though.

Holy fucking shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. Kojima delivers, that motion capture, that music, those graphics... the open world and real time stuff. Looks like it tackles some serious shit with the child soldier thing too, but still bizarrely Metal Gear. Keifer's voice acting sounds great, too.

Posted by: Wiryu Jun 21 2013, 06:51 PM

I agree with everything but the Keifer Sutherland part. He just sounds like Keifer Sutherland.
