NO RPGS (Action RPG is OK)
NO MMO's
BOSSES ONLY
FINAL DESTINATION
This will be an open discussion. When we get enough posts, we'll discuss about each and everyone's post on The Official Apocalypse Tribe Podcast. So what's your favorite boss fight? And why?
This is tough for me, so I'm gonna choose three then decide from there.
No RPGs? No MMOs? Bosses only? This man fits all the criteria. In the episode where Tony and Samantha fight. best boss fight imho.
Monster Hunter is not an MMO, as 4 players do not count as massive, so I choose Wyvern hunting in Monster Hunter.
We would tag the Wyvern with paint, then run from zone to zone, tracking the moving blip on the map. We set up a pitfall trap and sounded the horn which would bring the Wyvern crashing down on our location. One player was elected to be the bait and stand in it's path in front of the pitfall. When the monster would storm in for the kill, the bait rolled out of the way at the last instant and the giant creature tumbled into the pit where we had also placed explosive powder kegs. The Gunner would alternate between firing damaging rounds into the beast, and firing healing shots at the team, reloading ammo each time. The giant swords and axes would sometimes catch an errant teammate and send them flying through the air. It was some of the most technical team based situations I have encountered, and ultimately the most fun boss fights.
The Rathalos fight was always crazy, it was even crazier when you did the Masters of Sky and Land quest where fought both Rathian and Rathalos at the same time. Still though, Gravios was my favorite wyvern to fight in particular. He had the crazy Shoryuken beam breath, the sleep gas which would knock are melee'ers in the vicinity out and usually was up to the gunners to wake them up. Plus he was just so massive.
I was just on my way to post here, and someone beat me to the punch! Monster hunter also takes the cake for me, except for me it came down to the Akantor fight. Akantor is a dragon, about half the size of Lao-Shan Lung, except with one big difference from Lao; He's not a slow moving piece of shit who doesn't attack!
In this little video, you'll see why my Akantor card trumps (Literally) AC9's Gravios card!
I will say though, with the release of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Yama-tsu Kami is a really fun fight too.
You guys should definitely get in on the MHFU action! The new shit is really crazy!
What is it that makes a boss fight great? Like when we think of boss fights we only think about modern games from the past 10 years but how come none of us have mentioned any 8 bit 16 bit or even 64 bit bosses? I mean Megaman games are like a boss buffet and contra games are like boss on bosses!
i sorta consider monster hunter an rpg but i aint gonna fight you on it. no rpg's really limits what i can choose from. how about the bird collosus in SotC. easily one of my favorite boss fights of all time.
woah, good call alisha! I totally forgot about that one. Can't believe no one mentioned it on this thread before you.
my bad when i saw the image breaker posted i thought it was from metroid or something since ridley was underneath.
Drop RED RING!!!
I don't know what the fuck an Anplum Umbra is, but Dark Falz was the shit.
Maybe some later PSO/U bosses were more complicated and harder, but Falz was just shocking and amazing when you first fought him.
How many of us can remember the first time we scraped our way through all 3 zones of Ruins online, TP'd before the boss gate to stock up on supplies.
"OK guys, man up, this is it. We can do it!"
"~~~~Ole!
> Everybody"
"Don't steal my CALIBUR+7 if I get killed, OK?"
Then you warp into the gate, and everybody BAM dies right away from those buzzsaw things! You could NEVER be prepared for that.
"What the F UCK just happened?"
"Did you bring any scapes?"
"Shiiiiiit"
"I hate NIS Countries
> Crushinator"
Nothing beats that experience.
Don't forget to add to the part where he totally has 3 forms on hard + difficulty. You're totally blindsided by that after you take him on normal and play on hard the first time and he wtf steals your soul and you end up killing yourself.
Anplum Umbra I believe is the last boss from Episode 4. On the metor crater thing. He's pretty huge and you can ride him I believe in part of the fight. Still, I agree with Crush. Falz is the OG.
DF didn't become epic to me until much later on. like when your hp gets to the point that you begin to fear his rafoies and rabarta's. olga and gal gryphon however were always epic.
I guess we can't all be stat tracking PSO masters, so scrubby bosses such as Dark Falz will still amaze us riff raff.
Regarding the Cyberdemon: remember how right before each boss in Doom/Doom 2 they'd OVERLOAD you with powerups and weapons and shit?
Whenever you saw a huge bonanza of items like that, you KNEW you were in for an ass pounding.
Could argue on game types for these, but fuck it.
To keep the conversation going I always found the mid-boss in this video start at 2:03 to be a bitch! Harder then final boss of the game. He was such a cool looking boss too and destroying him felt sooo satisfying.
That was a mid-boss? wtf man, that dude was crazy!
Haha, yeah that "Gorilla" boss was rough. I think its a combination of his unpredictable patterns, and the fact that the boss keeps shifting depth, so unless you're experienced fighting him you don't know if you can safely fly under his legs or past his arm, etc.
And Diablo has kinda the same thing going that Dark Falz does; the first time you fight him, you think you're ready, then RAPERAPERAPE. Although at least with Diablo you could teleport back to town and keep nipping at him till he eventually died.
MILTANK from Pokemon Crystal. Absolutely Impossible unless you know its coming and have been told what to do. Warnings don't help, just ask Vitamin D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjckU7_MdU8
Hahaha too true. Miltank was and always will be a beast. Like Mecca said, even if you know it's coming it won't save you.
My brother and I had Japanese versions of Pokemon Gold and Silver back in the day. We used to have this gaming store that had imports for pretty cheap. Anyway, we chalked getting annihilated by Miltank up to the game being in Japanese. So when the US version came out we were like "ok, Miltank, fu!" Yeah STILL owned. I'll even go as far as to say that if there's some kid out there who claims they beat Whitney on their first try, THEY'S A DAMN LIE!
Want proof? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TCmxEIE0D4 I actually HOPE I lose to Miltank again when Heart Gold and Soul Silver come out haha.
