BLU RAY drives for the Playstation 3 will cost Sony a small fortune. It turns out that at the release of the console in the first half of 2006, Sony will have to pay more than $100 per drive it builds in Playstation 3. This is a lot of money, because even in retail you can buy a DVD +RW drive for less than $50 now. This means that Microsoft can get it much cheaper than $50, maybe even half that price, due to the enormous quantity it needs to buy for millions of XboX 360 consoles.

I've heard rumours that the ps3 will run close to the 500 range. Also that this Blu tooth technology apperantly will fry your ps3 if some pirated game is detected so you can't use your ps3 again. I'm having a hard time believing it, and really doubt that this will happen but who knows. With gas on the rise and maybe inflation in our future, I don't see myself purchasing any of the new consoles the first year they hit.

I'm enjoying my brothers Xbox,Gamecube, and my playstation 2, and don't see myself stopping anytime soon especially with ps2 coming soon. I really think they are pushing these next-gen consoles too early. The cost of hardware need to make the next gen consoles is enough to prove that they are.

I agree with you Breaker. I seriously think that the potential for the current consoles is still untapped. I have seen a few screens and some videos of the next gen games and they look a bit prettier, but how many race/fighting/shooting games do we need at launch. Instead of hauling out new systems with the same tired cliched gameplay but with boosted graphics, let's have some cutting edge gameplay instead.

The costs of these new consoles with all the accesories is ridiculous, spend some of the development money on new ideas and writers.

Maybe new and different gameply types will not sell, it's all about profit anyway. The Dreamcast had the best library of unique games, and it suffered a fiery demise.

mmm, this is a twist & if it does turn out that sony is going to push a higher sale for mass-usage of this blu-ray, then this could prove to be nintendo's advantage to keep a foothold in surviving next-gen ~ that is, of course, if nintendo doesn't botch its revolution up the way they did with the *cough* DS.. i'll admit, $500.00+ dollars is a tad expensive......the last time i spent that much was for a neo geo, o'so long ago (& that was painful, but during that time ~ magician lord was a must have..). well, i think i'll be going the xbox-360 route; i'm liking what i'm seeing thus far, & the risk factor won't be as high...i'll wait to see the reviews on ps3 before deciding anything..

for $500.00, the ps3 had better ask me how my day was, clean my house & prepare my meals ~ in addition to playing v-games.. beigelaugh.gif

& if revolution pulls through with decent online titles, then maybe......but nintendo will have to really impress me before i even look in their direction ~ & i'm talking about a zelda online & nothing less..

Personally I feel the DS is an amazing success. I didn't think it would be as good as it was and figured it was just a gimmick that would die in a few days but I'm starting to see that I was wrong. If I where to buy one of the handhelds I would choose DS simply becuase the PSP's library seems pretty lame. Actually it seems like the only really good thing PSP has going for it is the exclusive for Advent Children. Other then that I could care less for it. Plus I mean c'mon a game where you can play as a Lawyer and yell at the judge "HOLD IT!" or "I OBJECT!" you just gotta love it! beigelaugh.gif

Look at that cross-examination screen! So thrilling so exciting! You'd expect your character to jump over the desk and power up at any given moment! haha

The only exclusive PSP has on Advent Children is the UMD version beigelaugh.gif It'll be out on DVD the same day for everyone else, too.

And that Attorney game looks crazy and awesome. Who'd have thought DS would be the go-to platform for wacky games this year?

you'd be surprised how many people actually like having portable films on the go, though i'll admit that Sony looks to be pushing a paradigm shift a 'lil too quickly for my tastes; with my current collection of choice dvd's, i really have no desire to begin yet again with umd's......though hopefully, dvd's will stay for a while longer & after playing the psp for its games only, i still end-up using ps2 more often (less lag & better gfx-resolution..). *reflects* with prices as high as is, quick pushes for change may actually backfire on the company that initiates it ~ Sony should keep that in mind..

PSP is much smaller than your average portable DVD player, so its a lot easier to just have it in your backpack/pocket or whatever, and watch a flick on the bus or waiting at the dentists office. You can't deny that normal sized portable DVD players are a bit unwieldly for everyday use.

However, I will agree that UMDs are ridiculously overpriced, and lacking in the feature department of their DVD counterparts. You'll routinely see a bare-bones UMD of a movie for the same price as the SE DVD, if not more. But that doesn't stop you from ripping your own DVDs your Memory Stick and watching whatever you please (or downloading them pirate.gif ) I think that is the real area where PSP shines (it sure as hell isn't the games at this point! beigelaugh.gif )
