Doom Trailer

Yes it looks horrible and cheesy but c'mon now, it's a freakin DOOM movie!

Doom is set for release on October 21, 2005 and will star Karl Urban and The Rock. Like the game, the movie is set on Mars and pits "space marines" against horrible mutations gone awry. It is rumored to even feature a first person viewpont for a short segment. beigelaugh.gif

Doom is directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak (Cradle 2 the Grave). The film is written by Wesley Strick and Dave Callaham, based on the id Software videogame "Doom 3," and is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Constantine) and John Wells (Far From Heaven, White Oleander, television's The West Wing, ER).

The preview actually doesn't look as bad as it sounds, it has the potential to be as good as the first Resident Evil movie.

I don't get why they have to make such huge changes to the games story for the movie release.

Doom's plot is perfectly serviceable as a popcorn-action flick, but instead they change the demons to "mutants" or whatever the hell. You'd think the point of a videogame movie was to cash in on the fans, who want to see a film adaptation of the game's story they enjoy so much. Not some random bullshit that some hack thought would be "better". Even if the story of the game is shitty and cheesy, ITS THE STORY, STICK TO IT YOU ASSHOLES.

That said, of course i'm seeing this piece of shit. Better have the damn cyberdemon.

The Doom Move Site is up. Some new pictures, the trailer, and the storyline have been added. Speaking of...

Looks like the initial reports could be wrong and we may get beasties from Hell, as evidenced by this snippet of the storyline.

Something has gone wrong at a remote scientific research station on Mars. All research has ceased. Communication has failed. And the messages that do get through are less than comforting. It's a level 5 quarantine and the only souls allowed in or out are the Rapid Response Tactical Squad - hardened Space Marines armed to the teeth with enough firepower to neutralize the enemy... or so they think. The research being done at Odluval station has unwittingly opened a door and all hell has broken loose. A legion of nightmarish creatures of unknown origin lurk behind every wall and stalk the countless rooms and tunnels of the facility, killing what few people remain.

Ok, I feel a little better now about the movie, I guess.

From what I understood before, the movie wasn't on mars, the space marines were some kind of SWAT team, and the monsters were all bio-engineered zombies or some shit.

I hope it has the part where the Doomguy's bunny gets killed, and then that's when he gets really mad. beigelaugh.gif

Footage and news from QuakeCon

This footage from QuakeCon includes a preview of the first person view scene from the movie. The posted video is really dark but gives a great impression on how they handled this segment, which is totally badass. It's not a DOOM movie without a fps segmet. The scene is done the best way it could have been, the character appears to pass out, then the camera zooms into his eye and from then on the viewpoint is from his perspective, exactly like the games. Imagine the beginning of Saving Private Ryan, and you get an idea of what they are trying to accomplish.

I tried to get some screencaps but the quality was so poor and too dark for any decent pics, just have a look for yourself.
