Seems like the Ace Attorney games are getting a spin-off featuring Edgeworth.
Now you can walk around the crime scene collecting evidence and stuff. Sounds pretty awesome!

Looks like they are using a Inspector Zenigata look-a-like for the detective, I wonder if a Lupin look-a-like will show up.

Maaaan, get with the times! Detective Gumshoe has been around since Ace Attorney 1! ;)

I'm curious when this game is supposed to take place, and if edgeworth gets a beanie.

Worth noting, there isn't any screenies of him in court! :o

HEL YEH.

I finished the game last night, and as expected, the game stacks ups incredibly well to its brethren. AC and I had talked about it a bit on the podcast and agreed it's the AA experience, but helluva lot more streamlined.

This one of the best things about the game, it helps eliminate those times where the player catches wind of what's going on before the game does. It's also quite fun to be able to take a look at the entirety of the crime scene instead of a couple screens in first person. It's also a lot less guesswork into what you're supposed to do next. No more of that "maybe if I show them THIS evidence" stuff.

Using logic is probably one of the best additions. It's one of the reasons the player is on the same page as the games characters. As Edgeworth investigates, he'll keep different pieces of information in his mind. When he connects two of these information pieces you either get a new logic piece, something new is learned about the case, or evidence is updated. It's actually really cool, and totally fits Edgeworth's personality. All that's nice, but what about the stuff that really matters in an Ace Attorney game?

What's always attracted to me to this series is the strong writing, story, and characters. Edgeworth's spin-off definitely has all that. From the returning characters to the all-new ones, the game definitely isn't lacking in personality. It also has a story that is connected to every case in the game. It's quite amazing to see it all come together, and taking down the "last boss" takes quite a lot of work (moreso than, first game spoilers, taking on Damon Gant), but it's incredibly satisfying when you do.

Overall, this is a great addition to the series, and definitely one of my favorites. It's a must-have for fans of the series. I wouldn't say it's a good entry point for the series though, as it seems to take place after the first 3 games and before Apollo Justice. The bottom line is, this game is effing awesome. Eureka!

Finally managed to beat the game a few days and have been contemplating how I feel about this game for the past few days.

First off, it's definitely an Ace Attorney game as it's got the staples that any Ace Attorney fan have come to expect. The silly yet intriguing storyline, the hilarious and memorable characters, and the bread and butter of the series, the puzzle solving text debates. At first glance, it seemed to be making drastic changes by placing you in the role of the prosecutor instead of the defense attorney and focusing more on investigations rather then court room procedures. But the reality is, these changes where all superficial cosmetic changes and it's pretty much the same game as any other Ace Attorney game.

Now I don't wanna give an in depth review of the game, but I wanna compare what this game is doing with the other Ace Attorney games. I feel like in some regards this game is a step forward for the franchise but in many other regards it was a step backwards. I'll start with what I thought where the negative points so I can end this in a positive note cause overall I think it's a fun game and I enjoyed the time I spent with it. the biggest thing that bothered me with this title was the recycling of characters from the AA universe. Maggie Byrd, Emma Skye, Officer Meekins, Lotta Hart, Mask * DeMasque, Wendy Oldbag, Larry Butz, I'm sure these characters where thrown in as fan service. But to me it just felt like they couldn't think up of original and interesting characters to replace the roles in which these characters played and they just copped out. One of my favorite things about the AA series is how they are able to come up with ridiculous yet memorable characters and in this regard I think this game just barely missed it's mark. The characters introduced we're certainly up to my expectations but it just felt like it wasn't enough. The biggest "C'mon son!" moment for me was when Emma Skye was brought in just for a footprints analysis. My other major complaint is how once again this game fails to take advantage of the power of the DS. At the very least, it felt like that to me. With the original 3 AA games, I understood as they where Gameboy game ports. The last case in the first AA game which was made completely to take advantage of the DS and the previous entry in the series Apollo Justice, the first original AA game made for the DS, definitely made the games a bit more interesting. This title however feels just like the Gameboy ported ones as it didn't make much of an impression in terms of how you go about solving the case like the two aforementioned examples above. Even more disappointing because the game certainly presents moments where it could have used dynamic pieces of evidence.

While I was disappointed in those regards, the game certainly made up for it with how streamlined the plot flowed. After playing so many of these games you begin to grow aware of a certain logic that flows in the game. In previous entries, when trying to solve a text puzzle/point out a contradiction, it would be difficult because at times you would be aware of a certain piece of evidence and it's significance that the game wasn't ready for you to present yet so you would be kinda stuck at a wall because you would be too ahead of the game in terms of logical order of events. In this game however that problem seems to be eliminated. I think it's a combination of the new Logic system this game employs and the way the plot has been written, but you are now able to think exactly how the games character would think or maybe, the game is able to catch up with how you would be able to deduce things more like it. So the effect is a much more streamlined experience in the puzzle solving compared to the previous titles. In that regard, I thought the developers did a phenomenal job. The game kinda feels shorter then any other AA game but thats probably because it's just that much more cohesive in how the plot pans out.

Thats all I got. Loved it, A- will play through again.
