I think this is my Game of the Year. The game is by Bethesda Softwords the same developer that brought us the Elder Scrolls games.

What can I say this game has all the greatness of Oblivion. Though things like stats are simplified and classes are more less or less how you wish to interact in the world (for example do you want to be a gun nut, or going around repairing things for money). At times its very much like Oblivion even down to the world map music cues, down to the voice overs, and down to the quest system. Though what is a vast improvement over Oblivion is the world is actually interesting to explore. Kind of like how Morrowind was. The weapons are awesome. Anything your enemies drop you can pick up and use. If anything you have to see the VAT system in action. Hahaha I'm in love with headshots now. Anyway the VAT system is basically gives the combat a more turn-based rpg, dice roll, feel. Otherwise you can play this game as an action shooter.

Overall I am looking forward to logging hundreds of hours on this game like I did Obilivion. I can't wait until a couple years from now when the modding community starts fleshing the game out beyond the current content. I'm a mod nut. I have 80 mods going on Oblivion currently.

This is easily my most anticipated game this year. I already have the CE sitting next to me, just need to get my damn Xbox back (tomorrow unless the UPS truck is hijacked by terrorists) and I can dive in.

I just wanted to give a few little quick impressions after finally getting to really sink my teeth into the game yesterday.

As a huge Fallout fan, I had a sense of worry that this game might not pull it off. After I completed the tutorial/opening and stepped out into the turbulent world, I actually felt a little disappointed. I can't say why, because it LOOKS fantastic, but I think honestly its because I had never thought about how the world of fallout looked from a first-person view beigelaugh.gif . Luckily, all that disappeared once I started on the first quest, interacting with NPCs, using my wits and skills to talk and science my way through problems instead of fighting or working hard buttrock.gif

Bethesda really did it, this is a near-perfect amalgam of Fallout sensibility and gameplay and oblivion's seamless open world and exploration. The VATS system keeps the turned based concepts without grinding combat down to a boring halt. The leveling system is pure Fallout, not hampered by TES's tagged skill leveling. NPC dialogue, and the int/speech/perk based dialogue options are great.

I mean, really what more can I say besides I started playing Fallout 3 yesterday at 11 am and didn't stop till 3 AM. Its just ace so far.

Yeah I been pumping insane amount of horus into this game. And I don't even game like that anymore.

I know its been said by lots of people but I like how the game teases you with finding a lot of the cool weapons early but good luck finding ammo for it. And the amount of detail when you kill stuff with VATS. I dont think I have ever seen squirts of blood hit the wall and some of it bounces off.

The whole Vault 112 sequence was creepy.

The detail of Washington DC is insane. I live there, and can say the streets and especially Metro sations are insanely accurate. Does not surprise me though because Bethesday Softworks is well based out here (Bethesday, Maryland duh). Also the draw distance is insane. I can always see the Capital or Washington Monument in the distance with no loss of detail (its there in real time). Though of course I'm running the game on my PC at Ultra High settings. My only complaint right now is there is a cap on the amount of shadows. Outdoors nothing except characters and a couple rocks cast a shadow and my card can handle having shadows on full blast. From what I read they did this because the game is a port and the PS3 and Xbox360 can't handle fullblown dynamic shadows. Oh well I'll wait for a mod to take of this.

So many games out this month though. The ones I have picked up so far have been ignored because of Fallout 3. I got to Dracula's caslte on OOE and stopped there. I have yet break into Dead Space other than the first 20 min. I've played a decent amount of Red alert 3 though (its more like Warcraft 3 than C&C LOL). Now Call of Duty, Mirror's Edge, Wrath of the Lich King, Left 4 Dead, and Mines of Moria (which I really want over WotLK) comes out next week or the week after. Maaaaaaaaaaaaan.

So I recently got this bad boy and have been hooked. Was wondering what perks some of you guys have gotten and opinions on them and some character builds.

Right now I'm going for a high Charisma, high intelligence, and high agility build. I'm planning on getting Animal friends perk maxed and have gotten sneak up to level 2 eventually will max it at 3.Pretty sweet when you get a sneak attack and get a one hit kill when VATS projected that it would take more then one shot. I can't wait till I can wear Brotherhood of Steal gear.

I made my first character a "brain" type. I had high perception and int and focused on computer, speech, repair, and small guns skills. I didn't have high luck or charisma, so I wasn't able to take the animal friend or mysterious stranger perks. However Commando + Finesse + Sniper perk combo is freaking brutal and easily available at level 12. You can swap out Gunslinger for Commando if you favor one handed firearms (the .44 scoped magnum is ownage). When you add Better Criticals and Concentrated Fire, ITS OVER! You're pretty much unstoppable with any small gun at that point.

ProTip: Dont' waste any perks on intense training, you can get extra skill points from equipment, quest perks, and bobbleheads later on in the game.

Holy crap, so I'm doing the stealing Independence quest and man this quest is freaking kicking my ass. First I made it all the way down to DC through the subway and when I got out I was greeting buy a fucking platoon of supermutants. I when into full rambo mode, busted out my Minigun and Flamethrower for the rushers. After a billion Stimpaks, and plenty of dismemberment I somehow manged to survive and made it to the national archive.

Hokked up with some chick in there and after a brief Metal gear Solid "Just shoot 'em!" moment she showed me a shortcut and we took an elevator to the basement. I'm trying to complete this mission with her alive but I'm running low on Stempaks and these damn robots are Brutal. Mostly the sentinals. even the freaking Laser rifle doesn't do shit on them. Was wondering if anyone here could provide some insight on how they completed this mission.

If your science skill is high enough, you should be able to disable the security systems and robots by hacking terminals. Also try to stock up on pulse mines and pulse grenades, they don't do much physical damage, but the EMP pulse temporarily disables robots making it MUCH MUCH easier to take them out.

It's wierd, soon as I walk in the vault I hear this crazy ass loud sound It drives me crazy and scared the shit out of me. So I left it and came back to see if maybe it was a glitch and same fucking thing. It's like super high pitch and even when I zone out into the wasteland it takes a while for the noise to completly desipitate. wtf man.

EDIT: So I managed to fully explore this area. I didn't explore for the quest, but because I had stumbled onto Old Ornery a while ago and was compelled to explore. Deathclaws where the primary motivators. Anyway, I suspect that the noise that I heard had something to do with the experiments being conducted in the area.
Particularly relating to this subject

Ign had an interview with lead producer of Fallout 3, Jeff Gardiner which I found quite interesting.

QUOTE
IGN: The liberation of Alaska was hinted at a lot during Fallout 3. What can we expect out of that simulated battle?

Jeff Gardiner: In Operation: Anchorage the player will find themselves able to re-live the famous liberation of Anchorage from Fallout lore -- inside a simulation similar to one found along the main quest of Fallout 3. Once the player finds their way into the simulation, they'll be stripped of their resources and have to survive within the rules set up by the simulation's creators.

The Chinese red army is everywhere, and the player will first have to secure the surrounding mountain side and then fight their way into the Chinese base. The player will have to use a lot of their standard combat skills, along with several new tools that will only be available in the downloadable content. These include interactive Strike Teams under the player's command and unique armor, weapons, and other exotic gadgets.

QUOTE
IGN: Do you expect title updates to fix a few outstanding bugs to come along with Operation Anchorage?

Gardiner: We are releasing an update for all versions of Fallout 3 prior to the release of this DLC. We take pride in fixing issues that are found by our fans and posted in our forums.

QUOTE
IGN: How much will Operation Anchorage cost?
Gardiner: 800 Points.

IGN: Will any of the three downloads come with a lift of the level 20 cap?

Gardiner: Yes, the plan is currently for the third DLC, Broken Steel, to increase the level cap. This will be accompanied by new foes, perks and all of the other Fallout 3 staples our fans expect.

OK, so I just finished up the Operation: Anchorage DLC tonight. Awesome quest line, even though its pretty linear it manages to present some unique challenges due to restricted ammo and healing. But the sweetest deal may be reaping the rewards after winning. You get access to a "vintage" 2066 T-51b Winterized Power Armor (no bonus stats, but it looks cool and has MAD defense), a Gauss Rifle, which is essentially the energy weapons class sniper rifle... and its crazy powerful too! It would almost be cheating, except that you can only hold one bullet in the clip, so you need to reload after every shot.

But the coolest prize has to be... the Chinese Stealth Armor!

Now not only do you look like a fucking badass, but the suit adds +15 sneak AND when you crouch you go stealth camouflage (like when you use a Stealth Boy.) You also get a named electro-blade chinese sword, for the full "Raiden" effect. buttrock.gif
