~since this be the month for spooky things to temporarily rule the gamut, jack-o-lanterns also add to the ambience; this has always been my favorite part of halloween.. ^^ a chance to carve a personal symbol of what the holiday means, & seeing the finished work lit up during the evenings inspires an eerie atmosphere of haunting beauty or, just plain haunting.. ;p

~i was searching for potential ideas for this year (yah, i'm carving a pumpkin ~ 'tis tradition.. ;), i came across this site; nowadays, i guess i shouldn't be surprised.. =. if i think it, then chances are for certain that someone has it listed somewhere on the internet.. anyways, here is the link.. ^^

jack-o-lantern

~now here be a dedicated soul - there are galleries for pumpkins, melons & visitor submissions...this individual has wicked ideas for carving pumpkins, & melons to boot; enjoy ~ if i come across others, then i'll post 'em here.. =)

ha! cool site. Horrible design, but still fun.
I liked reading about the origin of the jack-o-lantern.
My wifw and I have two pumpkins that we are going to carve up this weekend. I will take some photos after we are done.
The best part for me isn't the carving, but the roasting of all the seeds and having a nice snack for a few days afterwards.

For some reason, we always do some sort of cat like thing, and then somewhat traditional.

Yeah, rotten.com held this contest every year starting in 2001. Not sure they're doing one this year, as I haven't been over there in a while. It's amazing what one can do with a pumpkin, a knife, and an imagination these days....
