CPU questions, I dunno where else to put this... Options

Oh, I've gotta few questions about FFXI and the CPU deal.

1) Will the program scan to see if your CPU is exactly 800, as I'm only a bit, yet the benchmark runs a 2000+

2) Is there any "Processor boosting programs"? I dunno how else to word it. But, yeah, I think you get the idea.

3) How much does a p3 run now aday? I MIGHT be able to get my mom's p4...she never uses it, but she throws a fit whenever I bring that fact up...

you mean overclocking? depending on your bios you can overclock without software. there is overclocking software out there, but most of it sucks. the best way to overclock is in the cmos. just be careful if you do overclock. raise clock speed in small increments. if you do too much too quickly, system will become unstable, freeze up, or worse the cpu will go up in flames. haha. read some overclocking forums, see what your particular cpu can do with the setup you're running, and use that as a guide. good luck.

How would i get into my bios?

Usually when you first start your PC, you will see some post screen, those black background with grey text screen, after the iniatl bootup beep. Just press DEL key, should get you into BIOS. For some branded machine it is slightly different, for instance Compaq machine uses F10 key, Acer uses CTRL+ALT+ESC key. Not sure albout Hewlett Packard or Dell, i suppose they are similiar. If you are not sure what key to press, when your machine is booting up look at the bottom left of your screen, should have some message saying what to press to go into BIOS. Also... some PC may not put it as BIOS but instead call it SETUP.

I wouldn't recommend overclocking Afro,there's to big a chance of frying your processor,taking the Motherboard and your video card in the process.Since you have a PIII anyway,you couldn't go higher then 1000,so it's not really worth it,plus the fact that you aren't comfortable with the Bios.

Like i said in your other post in the FFXI section,since you can run the benchmark,and score in the low 2000,the game will install and run just fine,just be prepared for major slowdown in towns,AH and in heavy camping area's when you will be in a 6 player party.I'll give you an example...in the benchmark,that i'm sure you ran a few times,there's an area with water coming down in a river,with chocobos and lots of taru's around...it's shown from afar,way up...that's the kind of slowdown you will experience at times.Still the game looks nice and runs well enough to be playable.

As for your mom's P4,i'm not sure of the situation...do you mean she won't let you install the game on it? or is she bitching because you are talking of buying it off her and selling your P3?...maybe you guys could change PC'S since she doesn't use it much,a P3 would be ideal for her and you could play FFXI on the P4?

are you even sure you can swap procs ? aren't p3s socket 370 and p4s socket 478?
