SEGA revealed PSO Episode 3 today....but its the card game that they've been working on instead of a proper PSO!!!

WTD is up with the naming...this is just like when Square decided that their online Final Fantasy would just fall into the series as FF11...oh well...here's the lowdown from SEGA.
"Phantasy Star Online Episode III: C.A.R.D. Revolution" (Nintendo GameCube): "Phantasy Star Online Episode III: C.A.R.D. Revolution" expands the "Phantasy Star Online" (PSO) universe, offering a new style of strategic combat. Combining the excitement of card collection and deck settings with team-based battle tactics, PSO Episode III allows users to chat in the lobby about status upgrades and tactics, and then journey to the planet surface to engage in strategic combat using a turn-based Card system. The game continues the story arc of the previous PSO games, as players once again become Hunters and explore the mysteries of the planet Ragol. Featuring both online and offline play, as well as multiplayer modes, PSO Episode III adds new content and players to the ever-growing PSO community. "

I guess it will be fun, the graphics are definetely better than PSO Ep 1+2, but damn I wish it was a real Ep3! Well...at least we get to control boomas, right?

hehe sounds like a cool idea though, I'd only get it if it had online play.

which looks good since it says online offline play thing....

It looks really, really nice. But if it's just a card game, and not really much like Ep. I & II, I'd only get it if it were free. I think I'd like Ep. I & II much more, and I'm not going to pay for two PSO's at the same time and end up putting one away after a week.

If they run it on the same servers as PSO (kinda like how v2 ran on the v1 servers) and you only have to have one HL for both games, then I will get it. But if you have to pay ANOTHER damn online fee for this game, Sonic Team can kiss my yellow metal ass.

I mean... those graphics sure look nice! ^-^;
Yeah, being the complete PSO junkie that I am, I'm sure I'll check it out. But I'm with Crush on this one... if ST thinks I'm gonna pay another monthly fee to play a freakin' card game online, they can think again.

Very strange transition for a game sequel.
I enjoy running back and forth, capping enemies down in real time, now it's turn based! Yuck.

How the fark are combos gonna work?! I hate turn based crap!

I always wanted a tad of change in the PSO battle system, but this is just rediculous...
I don't like passing judgement on a game that has hardly any info, but it ruins everything PSO stands for.

Obviously I'll look into it after E3, but I'm having really mixed feelings about this, just looks like another card battle bandwagon type of thing.

so they changed it to Magic online instead of the action rpg (whatever) that it is now, I've always wanted to play on Online card game. I mean I could and play magic online on my PC but they won't animate those cards for me

How might this game play? I have never really played a card type game before. I have seen MTG being played but never tried it or learned how it works. Anyone have any theories?
Also those screenshots look like mock ups, something about them doesn't look right to me.

Im Picturing a Grandia 2 type battle turned based system
That has to be the best turn based battle system EVER.
It might be cool change, I as well am a Pso Junkie and would probably try to pick this up.
What would be neat is if you could transfer your chars back an forth from EpI&II to EpIII. Just to change the mood of the game and such.
It would be cool if they linked them as well and as for the combo system I think it would work something like Final Fantasy's X's "Beserk Mode" (Think thats what its called i forget) Where you have to hit a button at a certain time to make combos better.
But if i have to pay for it, I wouldnt pick it up

Well, my initial feeling on this news, was extreme dissapointment. A card game? A freakin' card game?? But, who knows, with hardly any information out yet its a little too early to judge....
I guess. If it comes out I'm sure I'll buy it, (I can't help myself

) but no, I don't think I would pay another monthly fee for it.

Well, to tell you the truth, I actually like the idea. I mean at first impression, I was a bit shocked by the news that it was a turn-based card battling game, but now that I think about it, I'm sure Sonic Team will make it worth the while. I have a feeling it will even interact with PSO Episode I & II as well. Perhaps they didn't wanna go ahead and make another 3D action RPG just yet. I'm sure they'll milk the profits from GCPSO for many months to come. I wouldn't fret, however, I'm sure there will be a new PSO adventure for us, especially when the new consoles become a reality. ;)

At first iIwas like, COOL EP3!!! Then iam like, WTF is this MTG or yugi oh.? Well the way I see it, if the game has alot of depth and strategy then why wouldn't I get it. If it's fairly shallow then i'll pass on it.

Man I was thinking the same thing when I first read this. Well all I have to say is when Zelda the Windwaker was first debuted it was heavily critcized, So was Metroid prime, but now look at these games, Their top sellers and people/critics loved them. Even though this is sega and they have made a few mistakes... Sega Cd... Im sure that they could make this work. Just look at all these card games out their which they can learn/steal from.
But I feel that Sir HC82 said it best.

Eerie.
As disapointed as I was initially, these were the exact two games that came to mind after thinking about it. I jumped on the bandwagon and thought both of these games would truely suck, but both turned out to be absolutely fantastic. I will wait & see. I'm hopeful, but still not really expecting too much.

Meteroid: Ya it turned out great, never doubted it...
Zelda Wind Waker: Well lets just put it this way, the only reason i have it is because I preorderd for the bonus discs. Steaming pile of Crapola if you ask me...
A laughable game indeed.
