In my recent purchase of the Gungrave volume3 DvD, I happened across a trailer of an anime called Samurai Champloo. Its from anime Director Shinichirou Watanabe. Famous for his work on, "Macross Plus" and "Animatrix: Kids story." More importantly for, "Cowboy Bebop". Well it seem as though he's done it again and has struck Diamond with his latest creation Samurai Champloo.

Well anyway I looked into it, bought the first DvD, and fell in love with it. Fans of Cowboy Bebop are sure to love this. Critics seem to agree that this is top-notch stuff and recommend it to anyone here.
Here a short plot summary.

Plot Summary: Mugen is a fierce animal-like warrior with a unique Bboying (break-dance) inspired fighting style. Jin has a more traditional style but don’t think of this as a weakness because his skills are amazing. The two contrasting samurai warriors are far from friends, yet their separate paths seem to cross anyways. Mugen is wandering aimlessly through the city when he stumbles upon a teahouse where he meets Jin and Fuu (A ditzy waitress, but don‘t think she doesn‘t have anything hidden up her sleeves). Fuu convinces them both to come with her in search of a mysterious samurai that smells like sunflowers and their journey begins. This modernized hip-hop tale breaks the barriers of the common, historical, samurai anime.

Sounds great. It's been awhile since I seen a good anime. I saw Ghost in the Shell 2 recently, and it didn't compare to the first one.

I'm not really wowed by anime as much as I used to in my early teens. Mostly because it was a new experience. Now, there is so much anime avaliable and most of it is of average quality, if not visually, but very much so in story and cinematography. So, I tend to look foward to some good anime.

Well, i'm a huge fan of the cowboy bebop series and the meanings hidden within it. So i am very psyched about this :D

Hot damn, does that look clean. Oh man, I'm investing into a DVD or 2.

I've seen the first 13 episodes of it, and it's pretty damn tight. The story i think could be a lot better, but it's still very entertaining, and the characters and action are up there. If anyone has bit torrent i can show you where you can see the episodes if you want to look into it.

Everyone I've heard say it out loud pronounces it like "Samurai Shampoo". Is this correct?

LOL

Oh man, that's too rich. Judging by the katakana, it is indeed "cham-PLOO". And the Japanese word for shampoo is "senpatsu" I believe.

And thanks for the link, D.

This kinda reminds me of Rurouni Kenshin, but with a lot more attitude.

how does it compare to bebop?

how does it compare to bebop?

I'll just say that they are very very similar. Both series pretty much have the same set up. A lot of episodes with their own indivdual (sometimes plain weird) story and an episode every now and then that brings your attention back to the main story. And when these episodes hit like in Bebop, they hit hard. Also, both have some very hilarious episodes. I'm positive that if anyone is a fan of Bebop he'll easily get into Champloo. So get the torrents, wait for it on Adult Swim, buy the DVDs, do something. Just watch it. beigelaugh.gif
