HEL YEH.
I finished the game last night, and as expected, the game stacks ups incredibly well to its brethren. AC and I had talked about it a bit on the podcast and agreed it's the AA experience, but helluva lot more streamlined.
This one of the best things about the game, it helps eliminate those times where the player catches wind of what's going on before the game does. It's also quite fun to be able to take a look at the entirety of the crime scene instead of a couple screens in first person. It's also a lot less guesswork into what you're supposed to do next. No more of that "maybe if I show them THIS evidence" stuff.
Using logic is probably one of the best additions. It's one of the reasons the player is on the same page as the games characters. As Edgeworth investigates, he'll keep different pieces of information in his mind. When he connects two of these information pieces you either get a new logic piece, something new is learned about the case, or evidence is updated. It's actually really cool, and totally fits Edgeworth's personality. All that's nice, but what about the stuff that
really matters in an Ace Attorney game?
What's always attracted to me to this series is the strong writing, story, and characters. Edgeworth's spin-off definitely has all that. From the returning characters to the all-new ones, the game definitely isn't lacking in personality. It also has a story that is connected to every case in the game. It's quite amazing to see it all come together, and taking down the "last boss" takes quite a lot of work (moreso than, first game spoilers,
taking on Damon Gant), but it's incredibly satisfying when you do.
Overall, this is a great addition to the series, and definitely one of my favorites. It's a must-have for fans of the series. I wouldn't say it's a good entry point for the series though, as it seems to take place after the first 3 games and before Apollo Justice. The bottom line is, this game is effing awesome. Eureka!
