Mechanically, it looks almost identical to the first one. I hope they revamp the chat system somehow.

Hmmm seems more like A MH Ver.2 than a sequel. I noticed the maps are identical. beigelaugh.gif But ill probably give it a play, MH was good to me up to HR 20 haha.

Monster Hunter Portable is based on the Monster Hunter G game for the PlayStation 2. New features have been added to this version of the game including minigames and the ability to raise cats. The game supports 1 to 4 players via an ad-hoc connection.

I couldn't find a reliable US relase date, other than December 2005 for Japan.
AC9breaker
That looks pretty cool, interesting features.

Man I always though this game look like fun. The monsters and everything always appealed to me. I think I'm gonna pick up the the one currently available and mess around with it just for kicks.
Wiryu
Breaker you pick up monster hunter and i promise i will pick up where i left off and play the OG experience with you ;)

Edit: I'm sure Alleron and Shalafi will too, so we'll have a full group beigesmile.gif

I actually already broke out MH, getting used to the game again, but what fun :D
Vitamin D
Hmmm this has also peekd my interest haha. I may log on at night and see if I can run into you guys. I haven't played in a long while, but I think it would be fun to slay a few Kut Kus again. beigelaugh.gif

I remember I was this close...

to get getting Monster Hunter. I even made a topic about it. When it came down to it, barely anyone was playing anymore. Hopefully this one is a vast improvement over the last one.

I also wonder about PSU, meaning if these games will clash with each other.

What server/area/etc. are you guys playing at these days? I'd like to start playing this game again and would love to meet up with you guys.

Those Famitsu scans are sweet. I just hope they improve on the communication system as well as allowing people that get disconnected mid-mission to be able to get back in.

It's funny, with all this talk about Monster Hunter lately, I actually dug out my copy and it's sitting next to our PS2. The limited time I played this game with you guys was a blast. This game is so badass that one time Donkey and I watched some Japanese hunters for like an hour while they broadcasted their game over Peercast. beigelaugh.gif

Word on any latest Quests?
DarkEpyon
I wonder if they've been rotating the previous ones from last year, i.e. kill 30 velociprey.
AC9breaker
I was watching a trailer for this game and man, I'm totally getting this game. Actually I went to the mall today hoping to pick this game up but they no longer have any in stock and the used copy I thought I saw before was no longer there. There are a few stores I have yet to check, so hopefully I can find it and we can mess around online sometime.

And look at that! beigebigeek.gif A post by MMM! beigelaugh.gif

Monster Mod Mute!

I thought somebody stole my copy of MH but it was in my bookbag all this time =\
I tried to get on yesterday but I kept getting that damned DNAS error =(
Wiryu
So i have answers to everyones questions. First, Mute, the cut it down to one server, so no more brave world or sincere world, but i typically play in Blue-A, i have you on my friends list as is, so i'll know when any of you are on beigesmile.gif

This answers for Dive and DJ, Quests are right after the next now, and i believe they are always up. And they do repeat quests, So kill 30 Velociprey is still around, as is the battle against Kirin. I play most of my MH on saturday nights, this saturday i'll be in maine, but next saturday night you can count on finding me there in Blue-A or otherwise O beigesmile.gif
Wiryu
Where are these fabled monster hunters i log in all the time to fight with? ;D

That has some trailers. One shows some of the new weapons, including bows and a more traditional lancing style fighting, looks sick!
AC9breaker
Man the quality of those videos where atrocious. I felt like somebody rubbed sandpaper in my eye. But those bows look pretty damn cool, or should I say, Tasty! beigelaugh.gif
AC9breaker
Oh shiz looks like not only are they adding bows but Samurai swords too.

Too bad PSU will have (most of) us by the nuts by the time this one hits the States.

Theres a little video in there for it. Half the shots are from MH, but there are a lot of new armors i noticed. Not to mention, i guess you'd call this our MHG, because most of it is a port, but with extras.

Monster Hunter G is making its way to the PSP, and a new installment is hitting the PS2; Capcom developers give first details on both games.

According to the latest issue of Famitsu, Capcom is developing two new Monster Hunter games: Monster Hunter Portable for the PSP and Monster Hunter 2 for the PlayStation 2. Monster Hunter Portable will be a port of the PS2 version of Monster Hunter G with a number of changes to accommodate the handheld device, while Monster Hunter 2 will be an entirely new installment. Series producer Tsuyoshi Tanaka is returning to develop the two games, and series director Kaname Fujioka is working as the director for Monster Hunter 2. Famitsu interviewed the two men, and they offered some additional insights into the games.

Tanaka and Fujioka revealed that preproduction of Monster Hunter Portable for the PSP began when they started receiving information about the handheld device, but its actual development didn't start until the current year. The game is slated for release within 2005.

While the last two PS2 Monster Hunter games were designed to be played online, Monster Hunter Portable for the PSP will focus on the single-player experience. The developers did comment that Monster Hunter Portable will use the PSP's Wi-Fi connection for gameplay with up to four people, however.

As expected, Monster Hunter Portable will feature a number of new additions that extend the life of the offline mode of Monster Hunter G. One known feature is the addition of an Ailu Kitchen, a restaurant managed by a group of Ailu cats that the player can visit for a meal.

The two developers comment that the difference in screen resolution between the PSP and PS2 hasn't been a problem; the 16:9 screen ratio of the PSP will actually give a better view of the field due to its width. However, the game's controls have been an issue, since the Monster Hunter series used both analog sticks on the PS2's controller, and the PSP only comes with one. Development of Monster Hunter Portable is currently 35 percent complete.

Tanaka and Fujioka comment that Monster Hunter 2 for the PlayStation 2 will focus on the experience of "living a life as a hunter." The two developers hope to take advantage of what they accomplished in Monster Hunter G and use it to spice up Monster Hunter 2. Unfortunately, character data from previous installments of Monster Hunter won't be transferable to Monster Hunter 2 since there will be some differences in the games, but the developers are thinking of other ways to reward players of previous games.

One of the new additions in Monster Hunter 2 will be the implementation of a "time" factor. Depending on whether it's daytime or nighttime, the messages and actions of non-player characters will change, as well as the variety of monsters encountered. The system will be used for both online and offline modes. The developers comment that the game won't implement "seasons," but there will be something similar in the game. The game will feature new monsters, which necessitates the addition of new weapons as well. Tanaka and Fujioka say that offline mode in Monster Hunter 2 will be better than in the previous PS2 installments, but the game's main focus will still be its online mode. The developers also said that they are designing a new system that "lets the user feel the existence of all the players on the server." No hints were given as to what the new mode will be like, aside from the intimation that it will be different from hunting.

Development of Monster Hunter 2 is currently 20 percent complete. The developers plan to release Monster Hunter 2 after Monster Hunter Portable but hope to keep the two releases close to one another. It is known that saved data from Monster Hunter Portable will be somehow transferable to Monster Hunter 2. Both titles are expected to be playable at the Tokyo Game Show in September.  -Gamespot

i picked up the original version of this game to try out offline for $15 and it was fun until the 3rd tier of quests wich force you to learn item combining. i tried beating the Yian Kut-Ku and those sand shark things but i came to the conclusion that its just not possible without making some sonic bombs. and whats with the metal skirts for armmor is it to much to ask for a girl to be able to wear pants -.-
Wiryu
Join us online lish >:D

EDIT: A tip for sand sharks(cephalos) btw. it's very possible to kill without sonics, you'll notice they stop occasionally to jump out of the sand to shoot sand. when they fall back in the sand, their back is expossed for a little pause, attack it as fast as possible, sometimes they come right out of the sand beigesmile.gif

I find it easiest to do that with a GS, but thats all i use. And you'll be surprised how easy Kutku is later in the game. (kills in under 5 minutes solo)

Pants are over-rated.
