I work as a security guard for 4 office buildings in the downtown area, betweenthe 4 are about 60 floors. Some nights I'm on patrol and others in operations. I've been with the company for over 4 years and worked at verious other places.

QUOTE (Nynaeve @ Sep 29 2004, 06:52 AM)

Ham - the night shift! Urgh! I had to do that, except we'd switch around - 2 weeks of 8-4pm, then 2 weeks of 4-12pm, then 2 weeks of 12am - 8am. Your body never got used to it. The stress you must be under to work those hours for a week then readjust, and all the while dealing with possibly dangerous materials, when your immune system is already low thanks to the stupid hours? You guys amaze me! I'll stop whining about my job now, k thx bye. beigerolleyes.gif

Who said I ever readjust. After about 8 months of working graves every other week, and having nothing real to do prior to noon on my off weeks I've just become accustomed to being up all night. I don't deal well with daylight anymore.
I'd rather work nights than days anyway.
As far as the health issues...not an incredible amount, adjusting to night shift will take its toll on anyone, People get sick alot on my shift and it's not exposure related. The materials are seldom dangerous and we take the standard OSHA prescribed cautions to prevent anything from happening. Only health related exposures issues in my department are few cases of latent TB, a herpes case from a sample that exploded into someone's eye (this has happened a couple of times i hear) and a Hep B exposure because some idiot wasn't wearing gloves while splitting a sample (I don't know, I didn't work there at the time).
It's honestly a great job with unbeatable benefits, so despite the draining hours and stress it's well worth it.
