I am not sure how many of you are familiar with the Warhammer 40k line of gaming products. It is more prevalent in the UK, where it originated. WH40K is a tabletop strategy game. Players are encouraged to collect and paint the numerous miniatures and create/purchase scenery pieces. Collecting and painting the armies and units is part of the draw. I have collected and played Warhammer for many years now, and am pleased to bring you this news on a new PC title based on the franshise.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is a Real Time Strategy game, much like the Warcraft/Starcraft series. I am sure you are all familair with how RTS game work so I won't go into detail here. What makes this game unique is the fact that it is true 3D, with the ability to zoom in and watch the action up close and personal.

Overall the game is very pretty with detailed units and very decent effects that create the harsh and brutal atmosphere that Warhammer 40,000 is known for. Animations in particular are fun to watch as the brutal battles begin to rage on. Ranged units will start attacks and switch to melee abilities when enemies get close enough. Special units spear smaller soldiers on swords and gadgets only to rip them apart. Explosions send bodies flying in all directions and vehicle parts move and track targets with precision. It's a gory dance of death when enemies meet in the blasted field of battle and an incredibly fun one to watch. |
Alright! Another RTS for me to try out, and set in the Warhammer universe, I like.
I used to paint the little figurines for my friends all the time, cause they sucked at it, hehe.

That looks pretty boss, I'll keep an eye out for this one...
wow i haven't heard anything about warhammer in a long time, but wow, those screenshots are absolutely gorgeous.
I got into the closed Beta. The game is pretty badass. The totally 3D engine is amazing, you can zoom right in and watch the carnage up close and personal like. With the inclusion of an Army Painter feature, you can completely customize your Squads and Vehicles with your own colors and banners. I am looking into making some Apocalypse Tribe banners and colors for a Space Marine Legion.
I think the beta is closed once again, but they are always opening it up, try for a key if you want to check this game out.

I signed up, maybe they'll send me a key. Is their online play in the bata? |
Apocalypse Tribe chapter colors (pending)
AT shoulder badge.
AT Predator Tank.
Can't change the army name in the beta, but when the retail ships, you can be guaranteed that AT will be well represented in the Warhammer universe.
Some screens I took.
Eldar Wraithlord in melee with enemy Seer Council.
Toasting an enemy's strategic point.
Attacking enemy HQ.
Haha, those decals and banners are really cool. I like the level of detail on the units when you zoom in, you don't see that much on RTS games.
The game looks sweet dive, hopefuly I got on the bata!
Couple more screens.
The Apocalypse Tribe legion prepares to move out.
Check it out, it's an AT-HQ
Eldar Wraithlord in a Chaos Marine bloodbath.
With my videocard on its way, I've been looking for something to test it out. With the talk of the Warhammer game to come next year I thought I would look into this one. I've been reading up on this game and it sounds/looks totally badass. It recieved alot of good reviews. Different then most of the games I usually play. It reminds me alot of this old tabletop game I use to play with my brothers called Mage Knight, except better.
There also seems to be another expansion for this in the works due sometime this year which will include 2 new races. Maybe we can get some friendly multiplayer games going sometime in the future.
Oh yeah
lmao at the name of the Orc troops. Mega Armored Nobz
haha
I picked this game up for 30 Bucks today, got Dawn of War and the Winter Assult Expansion. Holy Crap this game is badass! The intro cutscene where just too sweet. Took me an hour to do the tutorial. After I was done with that I went into the Winter Assault and did a campaign for the orc/chaos faction. Crazy fun. I'm still trying to figure out how to make your own Emblems. Gotta Rep AT once I decide to try online.
Look at my Squiggoths!!!
Space Marines inform BT he has been denied:
Baneblade distraction go!
Holy Crap the Baneblade is sick! Is that one of the Imperial Guard units or a Space Marine unit?
Baneblade is imperials "super" unit, toe to toe vs other supers, it dosent fare well. But packing 11 turrets you can mess up anyone who uses a lot of infantry, gun scaters em all over. Imps also get a solid assassin, and self propelled guns with massive range and a special shot costing 200 req/eng each. Takes some work to use imps, but abusing their tunnles and some lemon russ tanks, its all good.
Napalm ftw:
Arty fun:
Assassin 1 shoting another imp commander unit:
hah sweet, Winter Assault looks badass, I'll have to pick that up soon, gotta love IG and their tanks. Do you guys know if players who don't have Winter Assault can play with those who do?
Breaker, if you haven't figured out custom banners yet, have a look http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=29879 for instructions.
Sweet, thanks for the link. I'm not sure if people who don't have Winter Assualt can play with people who do. I really haven't explored the game much, I've just been doing the Single player campaign which is a real blast.
Since WA runs off base DoW, all that person would need to do is slap in DoW disk and run it instead of WA. I don't belive someone running WA can connect to a normal DoW server. Though i havnt tested.
edit: The WA additional space marine unit OWNS btw.
I'm totally getting hammered on the offline campaign on the Winter Assult for the Chaos faction. I think its Chapter 4, I'm suppose to switch between the Orkz and Chaos Space Marines and storm this maze like place. @_@
So after getting served by the CPU, I decided to try out online. Me and some random guy teamed up to take on some 1 star ranked guy, It was pretty crazy. He was Space Marines and I used the Orkz. Our Enemy used the Elder. He managed to summon his Avatar fire guy, luckily I had my Squiggaths and enough guns to keep him busy while my ally amassed his army. I then fell back to resupply my squads while my ally charged him .
Crazy fun.
Here is the only shot I remembered to get of the aftermath.
"IMZ THE BIGGEST SO I IZ DA LEADAH"
A Clash of the Titans! (love that movie) Flame avatar versus Blood Thirster, place your bets!
Finally, the badass Imperial Guard Snipers. I love their voice sounds.
