Oh hey, we still have the PSO forums.
I'll just post this here: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/15/phantasy...s-video-stream/ Teaser video that shows absolutely nothing: http://bumped.org/psublog/phantasy-star-online-2/ Hopefully, they'll show more during TGS. I'm excited but also skeptical. Also posting this for old times sake: -------------------- |

Obligatory
I love how by calling it "PSO2" they are basically disavowing the clusterfuck that was the "universe" series. Hopefully this harkens back to what truly made PSO great, back in 2001. -------------------- |

It really has been a whole damn decade of PSO and PSO variations. The portable series show that Sonic Team has learned to improve the gaming/fighting system. Everything else is just a layup for solid RPG style gameplay. PSOers are primarily action gamers, so with that in mind they should understand what we want.
While PSU was button mashy, it did step up from being too "stiff" and confined in the manner that PSO was. So they did listen to the gamers on that end, but the lack of some rigidity in the combat gave away most of the strategy. PSU was fun, but the combat was not deep enough for the hours of gameplay that lied in store. Needless to say, never release a true sequel into you milk the series 8 times over a decade |

The decision to advertise it as being on a PC is interesting. Do you think it will alienate a core demographic of gamers that might be console gamers? Either way, it's a good thing I got that new PC.

Maybe Sega is planning a larger scale for PSO2, more like an MMORPG? If that's the case then the limitations of the XBL/PSN networks might be an issue.
They might also want to right on the coat tails of the hype for FF14. Apparently there is a HUGE anticipation for the game in Japan, so it might indicate a new push for Japanese development for PC titles. -------------------- |

Hmm though Sega has a poor track record with their PC titles, from off the wall optimization issues to the utter lack of simple things like AA support.

Yeah they do have a poor track record; although, Blue Burst wasn't too bad. I'd assumed they should of learned their lesson by now
In fact I just downloaded PSO: Blueburst and I have everything up and running on the Private Server. It's pretty cool and it's a good 10 anniversary celebration for me. We should all join in. |

If anyone is interesting in jumping on PSO Blue Burst for some retro PSO goodness, here are all the full links to get started. It's pretty quick to get started:
1) First register on the schtserv private servers, since they are the most active servers: http://www.schtserv.com/register.php 2) Next download Blueburst installer: http://schtserv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=...08c985246ca2c6b which gives you a lot of options or http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4K8VIFBR 3) If your on windows 7 or vista, you must right click the blueburst exe icon and choose to "open as Administrator" to actually play. If you don't you'll probably get some error messages that won't allow you to DL the patches properly. 4) Guide to installation trouble shooting: http://schtserv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=...750&start=0 5) PLAY!!! I use a PS2 to USB converter to play. But the KB is pretty solid too. If you use a PS2 controller, you can easily customize the controller, just make sure you DL the proper drivers for the controller. |

PSU more or less obliterated whatever faith I may have had in Sega and ST. As much as I loved PSO like everyone else, I don't see myself touching this.

It looks like PSU =T
The added jumping is interesting though. Wonder if there's any platforming involved. I also wonder how they'll handle the techs in this game. EDIT: awwww shit some hi-res shots up in this: http://www.4gamer.net/games/120/G012075/20110424001/ OK, now I'm a bit excited. The costume designs seem to take some inspiration from the original PSO costumes. They look pretty great. -------------------- |

And how about no paid fucking subscription this time? Gameplay and graphics look hot. INITIATING CODE (BRAVO)! -------------------- |

Code Bravo for the win!
The characters seem a lot more mobile. At this point, it's up to Sonic Team to make things right. We know what needs to be done and they've had enough time messing around with all these other PSO title variations. So, they just need to do it already! Balls to the wall action + Awesome RPG character growth elements + funky Phantasy Star world = WIN |

have any of you guys played phantasy star portable 2? some of the stuff you guys ask for is already in that game wich ive been playing bootleged on my psp.(you dont even need cfw to pirate psp games these days.....) free to play online they also changed a lot of stuff. like i think they got rid of synthing weapons. PP is a character stat not a weapon stat so no spamming PA's then switching to a different weapon with the same PA you regenerate PP though. instead of using PA's to level them up you just find/buy discs of a higher level. photon blast like summons for human and newman. Fo's can shoot techs consecuitively to make a combo. guns get charged shot wich is like like PSZ style PA's where you hold the button down then let go to do a fancy shot. 2 new nano blasts(they arent just different colors they look and attack different) also theres this system sorta like talents in wow so you can customize your character. like buy a skill to increase your damage with double sabers. or increase how much you heal for. also sonic team hasnt touched the phantasy star series since PSU:AoI its handled by a company called alfa system now. almost forgot they added the dodge roll from PSZ and you can block either with a 2 handed weapon or a sheild wich you equip with a 1 handed weapon.
shows black nanoblast and mirage blast at 1:00 charge shots mirage blasts-this isnt all of them an old friend from pso -------------------- |

Gonna dump of a bunch of info here:
Some new game info: Game Server Information
Image batch 2 Image batch 3 Image batch 4 (Units) via PSO-World Sounds good yah? Also a little note on the units: Seems like they're still taking concepts from the first PSO and putting it into current PSO games. If you guys recall, there were some concept art in the Book of Hunters art book that showed what we thought were mags. They were floating over the character's shoulders as well as around the ankles. Kinda cool to see it in action today in the form of visible units. -------------------- |

Nice!
Expanding tatas; quality PSO action at its best. PSE and PSE Burst seems like a great way to skillful increase drop rates for rare hunting. Also the 12 party groups means they can add interesting raid elements to the game. Uber Time Attack Raid bosses or something. When is this game coming to the States? A PSO2 count down is in order. |

Thanks for posting some HARD NEWS info based in FACTS, Donkey. Good to get it from a real source like ATHQ instead of some PSOW weeaboo bullshit.
All the details sound promising, hopefully they don't fuck up the content like with PSU. And no more BS item crafting either, just drops! -------------------- |

There's no mention of an NA release date yet. The JP release is still a vague "sometime 2011". Here's another image I swiped: Very glad to see the FOnewm outfit back in action (with a futuristic twist!). Sure, it's always been goofy but it adds to the character. I mean, how many of you remember how a FOnewm walked when equipped with a rod? No one walks like that, son. Let alone how he casted magic. Looks like I know what I'm rolling with when the game comes out. -------------------- |

There was some live stream today about PSO2.
Official opening Nothing really special about this other than the fact that there's some lighting tech going on now. New trailer. Yeahhhh, mags. Feelin' a lot like PSO. Even the sorta remix of A Whole New World is pretty welcoming. -------------------- |
