Oh hey, we still have the PSO forums.

I'll just post this here:
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/15/phantasy...s-video-stream/

Teaser video that shows absolutely nothing:
http://bumped.org/psublog/phantasy-star-online-2/

Hopefully, they'll show more during TGS.

I'm excited but also skeptical.

Also posting this for old times sake:

Obligatory

I love how by calling it "PSO2" they are basically disavowing the clusterfuck that was the "universe" series.

Hopefully this harkens back to what truly made PSO great, back in 2001.

No kidding. Hopefully the gameplay shows they have learned their lesson.

It really has been a whole damn decade of PSO and PSO variations. The portable series show that Sonic Team has learned to improve the gaming/fighting system. Everything else is just a layup for solid RPG style gameplay. PSOers are primarily action gamers, so with that in mind they should understand what we want.

While PSU was button mashy, it did step up from being too "stiff" and confined in the manner that PSO was. So they did listen to the gamers on that end, but the lack of some rigidity in the combat gave away most of the strategy. PSU was fun, but the combat was not deep enough for the hours of gameplay that lied in store.

Needless to say, never release a true sequel into you milk the series 8 times over a decade

The decision to advertise it as being on a PC is interesting. Do you think it will alienate a core demographic of gamers that might be console gamers? Either way, it's a good thing I got that new PC.

Maybe Sega is planning a larger scale for PSO2, more like an MMORPG? If that's the case then the limitations of the XBL/PSN networks might be an issue.

They might also want to right on the coat tails of the hype for FF14. Apparently there is a HUGE anticipation for the game in Japan, so it might indicate a new push for Japanese development for PC titles.

Hmm though Sega has a poor track record with their PC titles, from off the wall optimization issues to the utter lack of simple things like AA support.

Yeah they do have a poor track record; although, Blue Burst wasn't too bad. I'd assumed they should of learned their lesson by now

In fact I just downloaded PSO: Blueburst and I have everything up and running on the Private Server. It's pretty cool and it's a good 10 anniversary celebration for me. We should all join in.

If anyone is interesting in jumping on PSO Blue Burst for some retro PSO goodness, here are all the full links to get started. It's pretty quick to get started:

1) First register on the schtserv private servers, since they are the most active servers: http://www.schtserv.com/register.php

2) Next download Blueburst installer:

http://schtserv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=...08c985246ca2c6b

which gives you a lot of options or

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4K8VIFBR

3) If your on windows 7 or vista, you must right click the blueburst exe icon and choose to "open as Administrator" to actually play. If you don't you'll probably get some error messages that won't allow you to DL the patches properly.

4) Guide to installation trouble shooting:
http://schtserv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=...750&start=0

5) PLAY!!! I use a PS2 to USB converter to play. But the KB is pretty solid too. If you use a PS2 controller, you can easily customize the controller, just make sure you DL the proper drivers for the controller.

PSU more or less obliterated whatever faith I may have had in Sega and ST. As much as I loved PSO like everyone else, I don't see myself touching this.
